The horse appreciation thread

This bloody beautiful, wonderful, treasure of a horse ❤️ the one I said was brilliant in traffic and made me feel safe...

Well today we got driven into by a fat man in a fiesta with very little sense or patience.

I was about 3 strides away from a passing place on a single track road.
Driver pauses behind us, then ploughs on up the verge to overtake and I just managed to get my leg in the middle before he smacked his wing mirror into us.

This wonderful beast stood like a rock despite the second hand thump to his belly through my leg, and the very loud bang the mirror made as it snapped back against the car. Obviously fat fiesta man didn't pause and continued on his merry way!

Fortunately beast and I are fine. I rather hope the same can't be said for the car....

Thank you ❤️ both of us are fortunately OK. I think because my lad didn't react I tried to not react either so neither of us got wound up about it.
If I'd been sat on anything else it could have been a bloodbath, but I wasn't and I'm just relieved no harm was done

Annoyingly I didn't get his reg because I was checking the boy to make sure he hadn't been bashed.
Even if I had though, I suppose it would have been my word against his. I'm looking into cameras now, I think it's probably worth the investment.

It definitely is worth it, after my few incidents Id never go without now. Im so pleased he was a complete dude for you 🥰 good for you staying calm too

Enormosaurus trusted me enough to carry me past the horse eating sheep. She was very worried, poor thing, and did try to cart me off the other way a couple of times but we stood and waited patiently for her heart rate to drop a bit and then she marched past when she was ready. I can't get off and lead because I'd never get back on a again and with her size I feel I have more control from the saddle. I think I'm getting attached and that wasn't in the plans.

I am a solo hacker too 🥰 occasionally company makes for a bit of variety. But they usually struggle to keep up with us and I don't struggle for good conversation with my lad when we're out alone, he's pretty communicative 😂
I just chat to Orbi the whole time, his wee ears flicker, its amazing 🥰🥰

My first pony :) We did everything together: Mounted Games, PC Camp, Rallies, Showjumping, Fun Rides, Charity Hacks, Cross Country. She's not doing much now and she had a very ignorant teenager to deal with (looking back some of her behaviour would suggest pain sadly) but she means the absolute world to me and is happily living in retirement at 14. She may be brought out of it if there was ever a child in my life but she'll have a forever (now non-ignorant) home with us. I love her to pieces even if she is now semi-feral!IMG_3009.jpeg

My Dad's horse and a massive cutie. Now retired after some issues with her hocks (she was a 1.30m showjumper in her youth) and also semi-feral. We did some hacking and schooling together to keep her ticking over since my Dad hadn't ridden in years and she was always such a legend. Also love her to pieces and you couldn't ask for a prettier field ornament.E9686150-ECDD-49EE-93D2-FA8CB44C5CD8.jpeg

My part-loan for almost two years while I was studying for my undergrad :) I miss him dreadfully every day as he (and his lovely, lovely owner) really did get me through some tough times. Feel so lucky to have had the privilege of knowing him!

And finally... to all the other horses and ponies I've had the pleasure of knowing and riding, I'm very appreciative :)

I would report it to the police anyway

Unfortunately I don't think they'd be particularly open eared. A friend had a similar experience last year although she actually got the car registration.
Police response was, no damage was done and its his word against yours, they declined to pursue it....

Reviving this thread because the big man has done it again and put a silly grin on my face 😁
Hired a local gallops yesterday, it was the first time he'd seen them since he came out of racing.

He came round the corner saw the white rails and grew about a hand!

It was blowing a gale, I had finally put 2 and 2 together and realised that he had been unusually twitchy and spooky for 5 days...exactly the same length of time since I'd doubled his fibrebeet 😖 (now off the menu!)
I also heavily blurred the line between brave and spectacularly stupid and left him in a hackamore and forgot a neck strap 🙈

To my mild surprise and great relief, despite pulling with enthusiasm, we had enough brakes to actually stop at the end and he promptly stuck his head down for a snack on the verge! 🤣
There was a bit of a yippee on the second run but he caught me politely and carried on.
Third time round I made him do trot canter transitions for the first furlong to make sure there was some sort of brain engagement and he carried on beautifully after.

The closest we came to parting company was hacking back across the field to the start on the buckle, when a partridge popped up under his nose 😂

My mare hasn’t really done much - a few walks in hand, being taken into the shed for a groom - but I couldn’t be more pleased with her. She loves a fuss and stopped eating in the field yesterday for about 15 minutes as we (husband and I) gave her kisses, groomed her and checked her hooves. She stood completely still, only sometimes moving her head to place it on one of us. Can’t wait to meet her foal in a few weeks!
