Just a little bit of a rant..

I know it is a dealers job to buy and sell horses but can’t help but feel a bit sad when I see a beautiful 2 year old ID filly advertised for sale - then see it readvertised a couple of weeks later after just arriving in a new home for nearly double the price... horse probably doesn’t know whether it’s coming or going and just to make a quick buck.. but then I am a softie!

The prices are extortionate at the moment - I saw a fairly regular Dressage horse for sale for 18k the other day... and a Hunter for 25k!!! Can't imagine that amount of money. I will be in the market for something in the next year or so, but looking at prices at the moment I reckon I am going to need to stump up around 8k for what I will be looking for. Got to find a way to earn the money first..!

I completely understand good horses fetching good money but some of it is just madness! And some adverts..

“16.2 good horse, hacks, message for info...” how can you sell horses with adverts like that?! Just wasting everyone’s time ?

I briefly debated a third to play with (I think the slight sun has gone to my head...!). Luckily these ridiculous prices mean I'm not going to pick up a cheapo project...because there are none!

Tell me about it! I’ve been offered the amazing opportunity to take on a lovely little yard sole use but I wonder if I’ll be able to afford a Shetland, let alone something to bimble about on and have a bit of fun!! ??

But do they actually sell? Or are they on the market for months?

I know that there's all sorts out there, but I think it's a good thing that decent horses are now fetching proper money. Before now, the only people making money from breeding and producing horses were the production line ones, like Funnells or Schokemohles.

If I were younger I'd be back producing horses to sell, now that there's a possibility of a livelihood in it.

I saw a horse for sale on HH that looked AMAZING and just right for my needs. £8k, ‘ok’ I thought, ‘I get the market is quite hot, but he’s done some good stuff and is in work’... until I got to the last bit of the ad, where they disclosed he has shivers. £8k for a horse with shivers...

I have been browsing (not ready to buy yet, but getting my eye in) and have noticed that they seem to be coming down a bit. Quite a few nice types for around 9K on Horsequest, whereas before such a horse would have been 15K.

Of course, I haven't actually rung them, so they could all be duds!

i think the market will "rectify itself" over the next 12 months, when the impact of both covid and Brexit on jobs starts to collide.............

I thought it would have done that already tbh but doesn’t seem to have happened. I know someone with a decent 5 figure budget being offered horses masses over their budget!

Saying that, I’m in favour of a market that brings a decent profit for decent horses as I do think they’ve been pretty cheap for a long time. It’s the artificial impact of COVID and the big price increases that feel out of whack.

We haven't come out if the furlough scheme, also we working from home people have more time etc and have tended to over extend on dogs horses etc.. the ones which are normally expensive will stay around the same price. It's the over inflated £2500 for a puddle cross pup etc which will come down. I'm worried for the lower end of the markets

So if you are selling I would sell...if you want to buy i would wait
