1. How many KG of hay does your pony have overnight? No idea, big haynet brimmed once a day- 3/4 of a hand bale I guess?

Also..

2. Type of horse: Cob

3. Height: About 13.2hh atm - only 2 though

4. Weight: On a tape, 356

4kg . Was mix of soaked old hay and oat straw, but lami prone so now oat straw alone (plus vits and mins in a bit of Hifilite)
Type of horse - Haflinger - smallish cob
14.2
Still overweight but reducing gradually.

Adlib haylage
Tb
16.2
560kg
Out all day, no hard feed

9kg soaked hay split into 2 small holed nets,
Idx (good doer)
766kg
Out all day, no hard feed

I'd hate to think! She has ad lib hay. YO likes hay to be fed in nets so our huge haynets provides us weight training when we tie it up!

She's a 16.2 standardbred, probably around 560kg? She's podgy at the moment.

Hay found on ground with enough so there is always some left over in the morning. 14:00hh cob, 380 I think last year on weight tape. It's about 3-4 wedges a night although doesn't come in until 7pm and out at 6:30am latest most mornings. He doesn't have a rug so if it's really cold or he comes in really wet then I give him extra to ensure he has enough energy to keep warm etc, last few nights only finished off about 3 wedges worth (sorry its not weight) no bucket feed just bucket of normal kitchen salt in corner of stable if he wants it.

There are diff online courses and seminars you can follow to calculate hay and some needed, but I think providing they've got the 'I'm full' button working, and most seem to self regulate if given oodles for a couple of weeks apart from those without it. Can't remember if insulin resistance stops their ability to feel full, can't remember the name of what it's called off hand.

Hope useful
Best wishes
Hannah

If only my horse had an "I'm full" button! He is a greedy so and so and will eat anything thats in front of him - which is why his night haylage is weighed.

18kg! :o

15.3hh wbx, fairly lightweight type. In from 2/3pm until 9 the next morning. She also gets two feeds a day.

She needed to gain weight.........

Horse 1

Night net: 7.5kg in smalled holed double netted net.

Horse 2
Welsh DxTB 15.1hh 4yr old 485kg - turned away
Night net: 7.5kg in small holed double netted net

Horse 3
Arab x 14hh 380kg 18yr old - retired
Night Net: 6kg in smalled holed not.

They each get 2.5kg in the field in the day netted. There's limited grass and they're having to forage for it.
They also get the reccomended amount of a lite balancer each.

No idea.

I just throw a bale out for the 4 of them to share every night. They live out and there's still a fair bit of grass on the field plus it's growing.

I've got 16hh and 14hh heavy weights mother and daughter (approx 650kg and 500kg), an 11.2hh welsh A (approx 280kg) and a standardbred yearling that stands at around 14hh at the mo.

They are all looking well. Dooney had PLE recently so went skinny for a bit but is putting weight back on now. :)

1 slice of a large 8ft bale (would love to know how much it weighs if anyone knows) plus a slice of the high fibre horsehage mixed in to make him eat more!
WB (more TB looking not the chunky type)

9-10kg per day MAX, (7kg soaked for 8 hours) turned out but no grazing at the moment
14.3h
458kg on the weight tape and on a diet and being excerised 6 days!
Cob, very good doer

Would love to be able to just throw a load of hay over the door or fill nets till they are nearly bursting and not have to constantly worry and monitor what he eats. He gets very little hard feed and Im pretty sure all is hay gone by about 10pm :( better than getting lami though!

About 9kg but she always leaves a small amount, soaked for 12 hrs and in small holed nets.

14.2hh Welsh D, weight tapes at about 435kg at the moment. Not overweight. Very good doer.

This is for overnight (about 14hrs), out on a very bare field by day with no hay. Small feed of lo-cal and few handfuls TopChop Lite.

Will go down to 6kg when in during the day, this will also be soaked for 12hrs and double netted/trickle net (just got trickle nets - yet to use!)

You wouldn't when you got the bill for the hay! Mine has almost double what yours does, we have to keep shovelling it down her so she doesn't look like an advert for WHW

8kg overnight in small holed nets - in from 1700 to 0630, no hay in field but enough grass to forage.
20 year old, traditional, heavy cob - good doer

Weightape says 550kg - full work and reasonable level of fitness
