The joys of 4yr olds- First competition outing

And true to Kat form with her 4yr old ponies, I fell off!!

hahaha!

Took madam to Arena Uk to pop round their SJing, after going XC schooling and SJ schooling I thought we'd be in for a relatively uneventful time

BUT thats the joy of baby ponies

She warmed up with her eyes on stalks and a little bit backwards, but was a generally good girly, so wasn't too concerned, but actually everything was probably a bit hurried for her! We went into the arena, and planted

Oops. Got moving again, got a canter came round to the first fence and went "ah yeah, I know what I am doing

" and popped it sweetly, cantered past the warm up, turned to the second fence, clocked it, head went up, we then wiggled a bit, spotted the SCARIEST marquee in the distance, stopped and spun

Guess where I stayed

haha!!

I genuinely dont think it was the fence, as we then popped round the CR very sweetly over fillers, etc etc at about 80cm after she had been led past the SCARY seating and marquee a couple of times. If you get her to the fence, she will jump it, we've just got to get to the fence first of all

So not at all disappointed, in retrospect should have popped round the CR first, but being as it was in a seperate ring, didnt really see the point of using it as a "warm up" and sparking her out too quickly.

Now just got to work on our new found skill of "planting"

which could be interesting in a dressage test

but actually very pleased with her

So onwards and upwards!!

But you do make me smile....well done for getting on with it though and getting her out....the more she sees the better she'll get, she'll be fine next time!!

It could have been worse.... she could have dumped you in the sea last weekend!

It was a big buzzy show for her first one so all in all I think she coped very well - well done

Haha! Thanks Sneedy, she is so sweet I was just laughing when I caught her

ISZ, yes you forget how bright white and shiny everything is at Arena

So was pleased she cantered round the CR so cutely

I forget its only the 2nd time ever she has seen a course, and she has been backed about 3mnths so its not bad really

Blimey Arena UK is a pretty impressive showground for a second outing, a lot to take in so well done

At least next time you will know what to expect so will be more prepared

So you don't want to know that I took mine XC schooling today (after he was decked SJing at a RC rally last week

) and he was AWESOME. OK so we jumped 4ft over 2'6 fences but I don't care

Indeed! It gave her alot to look at

Problem is, she hasnt got studs in, and all of our little shows are a bit manic, so prefer to take her somewhere like Arena, but there is always a bit of atmosphere there

Hopefully everywhere else wil feel like a walk in the park

At least you were able to jump round the clear round afterwards, and she got the hang of all the show-bizziness.

Ah bless her. It's all about them seeing the world at this stage isn't it so i'm sure it's been good for her. Hope you aren't sore.

haha! Yep prob is a bit brave,

but will be educational for her, and no pressure, we will just pootle about a bit

Thing is, she has taken everything in her stride upto now, so I think it was just the buzzinss that made her go "argh"!!

But she is going schooling on Thurs over some SJ's and XC fences, so just keeping her sweet! Then she'll have a quiet week in the field all being well

I think I'm appreciating having a very dozy one that you need big spurs on.... mind you, when he's a bit stronger I won't want to be arguing, so best get the education in first I think

Haha! I've worn spurs once on her, and she just spent the whole time going "Get OFF me!" if I used them

Haha!! Typical mare, it has to be HER idea...

And yes, you wont be laughing when he is a big thug and mine is a sweet little mare (oh yeah, like thats going to happen

I wish sometimes a venue would give you the option of jumping the 4 year olds in some kind of 20 x 60 padded cell. I did ask them at Summerhouse, but sadly they said they liked to have a laugh watching us all fall off and FEEL it.
