The kind of question my husband might ask?

I am looking for a new riding hat and quite fancy the Charles Owen ayr8 . My question is is it worth spending a bit more on a riding hat or should I just get something cheaper. I also fancy the gatehouse skull ( both are about the same price ) would this be ok for doing some low level dressage competitions? Thanks in advance:)

Both would be fine for low level dressage,( skull with velevet silk) although the Ary8 would be more correct and if you started to go higher up the levels or do affliiated competition you might feel out of place in a jockey skull.

If the gatehouse skull is the HS1 then that one has the higher safety as it has the SNELL E2001 rating the Ary8 is just passed to the lower PAS015 and BSEN 1384.

Ive always said you cant put a price on your head!!!! I have the charles owen pro-vent thingy and love it but my head gets hot so I purchased a caldene lumous for less than half the price of the CO one. Both display the BSEN kitemark, not sure on other specs??? but the caldene is so very very lite ad doesnt feel half as sturdy as the CO. Hmm not sure what my point is but might be best to have a feel and try on of both!

I find my HS1 very comfy and wear it for everything. Safest hat there is (along with maybe the Protector I think?)so it was an easy decision for me. Pardon the perhaps distasteful pun but it's a no-brainer...

Your husband has no right to question costs regarding a hat

.

Show him a couple of spectacular falls via YouTube and then tell him which hat you want "because it's the safest.":D

I have known ladies to slip in the bathroom, bump their head slightly and end up paralysed down one side.

I personally went blind for a while after a fall with no hat.:o

Unless it's a ridiculous price and diamond encrusted...if your husband loves you, he can show it by whipping his wallet out :D

Honestly? The safest hat is the one that fits you best (and obviously complies with all the relevant safety standards). There's no point spending £200 on a hat which doesn't suit your head shape when a £50 hat would fit you perfectly, and vice versa :)

I'd go somewhere with a range of hats and try them all, preferably somewhere there's a trained fitter.

I'm 47 and the only hats that fit me are the kids' ones :D At least I don't have to pay VAT on them ..........
