So I've literally just got my copy of Horse and Hound this morning and flicking through as you do and I came across the heavy rider's article.

Reading through it, there are some good points such as having a limit on the weight of riders which I think is sensible. However I think common sense also comes into this, obviously you would not put a heavier rider on a smaller danty horse, and there are horses which are bred to carry weight's such as cobs, highlands, shires etc.. the welfare of the horses is imperative of course. But I know some people that are bigger and ride very lightly where as I have seen smaller riders riding like a sack of potatoes...

What do you guys think? Do you think should there be some kind of restriction? or what is the answer?

Btw I am not snubbing heavier riders down, I just wanted to see what people think about this article.

We were contacted by H&H (as we sell horse riding holidays) to see if we'd seen any difference in the weights of riders going on riding trips. I sent them quite a bit of info but not sure if any of it was used in the article. Will have to try and get hold of the mag later!

Ohh that's interesting, it's a really interesting read the article. Although according to it 'vet's' suggest that we should weigh no more than 15% of our mount, my horse is 500kg and I am 73kg, so I am just on the borderline. Although in my opinion she could take a bit more weight no problem. It just got me thinking that's all....
