Has now closed it's doors. It was located in Illinois and it was called "Cavel Industries" Horses were shipped from all over the country here and slaughtered. The meat was packaged and shipped overseas for human consumtion. I saw alot of footage from inside Cavel and alot of is was horrific. Let's just say it was not a very humane process. I am glad it's closed, but wonder what will happen to all of the horses here now that were intended for this fate. Alot of people think they will be shipped to Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered instead. This is not a great option as one of the most inhumane parts of the journey for these condemned horses was the greusome and cruel transport practices.
I have always voiced that I am not agianst people eating horses. It is no different to me than eating beef. I am against cruel treatment and inhumane slaughter. I am also against WHY some of these otherwise healthy animals wind up there. It is most often irresponsible owners.
Ah well....just wanted to post that Cavel has at last shut it's doors
