Why is it that the less I ride, the less I want to ride?

I haven't ridden for a week now due to not having the time and the bad weather and I'm going to ride tomorrow. But already I feel like I just can't be a*sed! I'm just so tired at the moment. I'll probably be fine once I get going.

Does anyone else get like this after a spell of not riding?

you are not alone, i can get like this but once I ride it seems that I want to get straight back on, maybe its to do with nerves?

I get like that too, if I don't ride for a while I think I can't be bothered but then once I do I just want to ride all the time !

After me AND Harry went lame last August I thought I would never get back on. I know its a bit of a different thing because he was off work for almost a month and me for twice that long (my daughter brought him back into work), but I didn't really get back into riding until January.

I don't think its riding specific, I think its almost a human condition - we're just lazy b****rs at heart!!! Actually not sure what it is, but its not just you. As Ship says, just grit your teeth and do it. Then you'll get the bug again and it'll all be ok :-)

I'm the same also - have always said that riding is like a drug.

The more you do, the more you want to do. And I guess the opposite of that is true too

I do the same, especially wiht driving as you gotta hanress up..put to...warm up...then i drive and dont wanna stop
I agree, i tihnk were all just lazy

Know what you mean...I can easily find other 'important' things to do rather than ride...

then I force myself to get down the yard, groom, tack up, argue with the welsh git in the menage, he gives in and we have a fantastic time!! I often find a lesson re-focusses my mind especially if I book myself in for a dressage competition!

I was thinking i was alone!! Think it should improve soon with light nights and mornings coming, just need to get back in the swing.

I think I've just "run out of petrol"! It is so hard to keep up any pretence at enthusiasm at the end of the winter. I was OK during February as the weather wasn't too bad, but this last week I've just about reached the end of the line! My boy hasn't been ridden since last Saturday due to the wind and some long days at work, I too am really tired as well. I've got next week off work, and then it's only a week until the clocks change, so I've told myself it's OK to be idle for a few days but come this weekend I'm preparing for SPRING!!!!!

Exactly the same - have the post-winter blues. Whenever I've ridden lately I've felt great afterwards but with the weather the last week just want to curl up on the sofa and veg.

What I really want at this time of year is a (handsome young) groom to bring me my horse all tacked up and ready. I'll then ride in my own private indoor school or out around my 1,000 acre estate of rolling parkland and afterwards hand horsy back to groom and retire to my masseur!

That's why I'm called Inmydreams.
