Now he's far from a finished article, but he's getting there.

He's still only 5 now, and i would love to event him, but generally i just want to have some fun with him! He's the first youngster i've had, and the first horse i've had to re-school. In some ways it's a big challenge, but i'm learning so much and having a great time.

A good friend of mine got Major in 2008 off the track, he was with her for 2 years. In that time he was left to grow up and be a horse (he couldn't even eat grass when he went to her), she also did bits of groundwork with him over that time.

Here he is on track (on the inside)

This is him shortly after she got him, so not long after coming off the track.

And after a little while there...

Then in September 2010 i said i would take him on to re-school with a view of selling him once he was ready.

This is the day he arrived (out of the field)...

Enjoying some pampering on his first day!

This is all within the first few weeks, he was good as gold the groundwork he's done at my friends really showed...

Then i decided i was going to get on him... this is the first time i sat on him! He didn't actually understand any of the aids except steering i guess from the long-reining!

First time we tried doing anything, i just sat there everything was done by the person lungeing.

I then started doing a bit of hacking as i decided this was the best way to teach him... and it seemed to work! In the main he was a star...

He was then shaved, and was good as gold!

As you can see we got to a relatively decent level pretty quickly

But still did lot's of hacking!

Then tried jumpies...

then we had a little bit of snow...

Which he enjoyed ;)

He spent that time getting fat (literally!)

And learning some tricks!

Continued...

Then he came back into work, and suddenly realised it wasn't as easy as just trotting round and actually he had to start and education! So these are photos over the weeks since the snow, i think itillustrates just how fast he's learning.

You've done a great job with him. He looks wonderful and so much happier now. Look forward to seeing more photos of him as he continues his education.
I love a good ginge!:D

He's a lovely little horse - such a beautiful colour, and with oodles of character.

Hope his education continues to go well.

Oh he is gorgeous! You must be very proud of how far he has come so far. What a lucky boy to have found you!

he looks fantastic now!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think its great you've been really patient with him ie; spending time long reining- all your hard work and patience has paid off. he is a stunning horse.

can see why you are keeping him- hope you have lots of fun -good luck and keep us posted:D

your yard is sooooooooooo tidy:D

I'll be honest, first few pictures I thought 'yuck ugly bony thing'...last few photos....UMMMM WOW!!!!! What a difference, he's stunning and obviously well loved. You were lucky to find each other.

Wow! He looks fantastic and is a real credit to you. Completely unrecognisable from the skinny little scrap of a thing that came off the track. Gorgeous! I look forward to seeing more posts about your progress.

Mr Major!! I remember when he rocked up at the yard - another one of J's bargains from Ireland! Glad to see he is getting on so well now :D

I'm new to H & H forum and that is one of the few posts i've looked at and it was sooo heartwarming! How lovely to see him progress like that. Well done you! :)

Thank-you for all your replies everyone, it's really nice to see that everyone thinks he's looking so well! I'm very glad i agreed to take him on, he's a lovely boy full of character and is tons of fun. It's weird looking at the local shows and not being eligible for veteran classes though!!
