This is a short poem that is suitable I think for those of us that have lost some person/animal that they loved.Love is love.It was written during the second world war by Leo Marks for his girlfriend Ruth who had just been killed.
The life that I have is all that I have.
And the life that I have is yours.
The love that I have of the life that I have
Is yours and your and yours.
A sleep I shall have
A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause.
For the peace of my years
In the long green grass
Will be yours and yours and yours.

How dreadfully sad. Is the deceased dog a Great Dane? A friend of mine always has them and they seem to have a relatively short life-span.

Made me cry again, seem to do a lot of that these days.

My mum requested this be read out at her funeral; the ‘yours and yours and yours’ was for my two brothers and me 😢 💕

That's beautiful poem and it was lovely to read it right now. Our old dog is nearing the end of his life. To help him and love him during this time, is such a privilege. Its the purest form of love. He is, who he always was. A genuine, kind scallywag and each moment with him is a joy.
That's the way I felt about my old dog.
