I get so hot! I have a million coats but want something for this weird weather that’s waterproof but not sweaty to actually work or properly walk the dogs in without over heating.
Was looking at pac a Mac type thing but no clue if they are really waterproof.

Get something as high as you can waterproof rating which is breathable. Walking coats will be best.

5000 is moderate rain for 2 hours. So highest rating you can get!

Something like this is 10k waterproof which isn’t bad for the price. 20k tends to be top of the range and more £££.

https://www.workwear.co.uk/portwest-dx463-extreme-waterproof-rain-jacket.html This is 20k and a good price. Plus being designed for workwear it all has to be certified so can prove providing workers with correct PPE.

Oh thank you! I’m not so keen on the second. Bit man- y
But the first is not only quite nice but cheap! And I could get a colour that stands out a bit on the roads which is a huge bonus.

I bought one of these recently, it's 30k for waterproof and breathability. I couldn't find anything even close riding wise now my two lightweight jackets have given up despite reproofing so working on sticking some vents into one of my cycling jackets instead.

I probably should have worn it today- just back from a vvvvv soggy 'fun' ride 🤣 but I didn't want to 'horse it' just yet!

My waterproof coat came from Rohan. It was bought on holiday when I forgot my to take my summer anorak / riding coat which is a Berghaus.

It cost a lot. A uni friend of mine who walked a lot told me about Rohan on the day when OH and I got soaked though walking with him and I bought it as an emergency purchase while the rain was streaming down in Suffolk without really taking in the enormous cost. This was during Covid lock down so we werent spending on holidays or meals out and were not 100% rational.

To be honest, you'll be sweaty eventually in most waterproofs. They're breathable up to a point but the more active you are the more you'll end up sweaty. If you want really light weight then you could look for Gore tex Paclite, Paclite plus or Active jackets. Definitely go for the highest waterproofing you can afford.

Sports shoes have got some great reductions on waterproof jackets at the moment.

It's been a bit thwarted by companies not using some of the particularly ungreen products they were using, so like gores 'shakedry' which did what it said in the tin is no longer available and they've had to do a lot of re-engineering. Cycling stuff has to be breathable though, my summer jacket is 20k waterproofing and 40k breathability so it can be done (and packs into a tiny pocket 😂).

(I would say sportpursuit aren't always the best for returns but good prices)

I've only returned a couple of things to sport pursuit but never had a problem with them. Probably a bit of luck involved!

I've recently bought a Shires Aubrion Hackney Rain Jacket after someone on here recommended it. It's really lightweight and waterproof, as tested on a 1hr hack in heavy rain on the weekend!

Edited to say I had to buy mine on eBay as I think they're an older coat now and couldn't find a new one to buy in my size.

Unfortunately, they've been discontinued and are now like hen's teeth! I managed to rip mine in an unplanned dismount the other week, and I had a heck of a job to get a replacement. I'm seriously unimpressed with Shires, as they've not replaced it with anything similar. I've just bought some tent repair tape to see if I can get my ripped one useable again (if not up to heavy rain).

I bought one too, but the hood wont stay up in heavy rain for poo picking. Not ridden in it yet.

Oh how frustrating 😥 are there any on eBay/Vinted?

Fortunately, I did manage to get one of the last in the country in a size large (can't remember which retailer I got it from now). There was one new one on eBay too, but most of the ones I could find were small or extra small, which was no use to me, but may be to someone else (I do have a size small that I wear as a general waterproof, but I needed the large to fit over my body protector). I just need to make sure I look after the replacement (and not fall off again while wearing it!). Annoyingly, earlier in the summer when they were on sale all over the place, I dismissed getting a spare, and I really wish I had now.

Just be careful with cycling jackets if you wear a body protector, as they are often quite close fitting.

ETA just remembered this for walking the dogs, so you probably won't be wearing a body protector! 🤣
It is mostly for dogs, being round the farm, yard etc. I don't tend to ride in really heavy rain. However it would be nice if it can double up as both!

I actually already have it! Agree it's really nice and has yet to fail me on waterproofness, I forgot all about it!
