It all began 30 years ago when I started riding at my local riding school.
It's been 5 years since I started riding again after a 15 year break.
It's been 3 years since I met a HHer and she started nagging me to buy my own!
It's been 3 months since I went on the waiting list at the yard
It's been 3 days since I got the text saying there was a space

And it's tomorrow that I go to see Emma at Clip Clop!

I can't really believe that finally, after so many years, I may actually get to fulful my dream. The hangover that I'm currently suffering from isn't helping with positivity, so any words of encouragement, advise about what I should do/ask tomorrow would be gratefully received!

Fabulous - you won't regret it.

Best advice I can give is do not over-horse. Get something you can look over the saddle of preferably also I would go for a gelding (but mares don't like me). Nothing fizzy that needs riding every day, get something with a bit of common as the winters are getting so bad. Long ears and big eyes are also good. Don't get a chestnut (sorry).

Just enjoy, enjoy enjoy and remember that you don't have to buy tomorrow. See if she'll do a trial too.

:D:D how exciting for you. dont forget the vetting by a vet that you choose and not the seller no matter how good a reputation they have and i hear that clip clop has a good one. also dont be tempted to overhorse yourself (dont know your standard so apologise if you are a professional) i did and lost my nerve. however i still have the same horse and i did get through it but i had a few very scary winters.. anyway enough of the doom and gloom hope you see something you like and please let us know how you got on....:D

Lol, don't worry I'm certainly not a professional!! I'd say I'm an effective rider and will sit on most things but my flatwork is definitely not up to scratch!! Hoping to have plenty of lessons though and would love to think I could do some low level ODE's next year.

I definitely don't want to over horse myself, I'm riding a giant at the moment and whilst hacking is fun, I don't have a hope of holding him together in the school.

Just looked and it's only 2 years since I first met Amy_08, just seems longer ;-)

I'm off on a horse riding safari next week (probably last every holiday!) so probably should have waited until I got back.... but I just couldn't wait!

Although ClipClop gets good reviews, more than most dealers, I still would keep a very open and professional mind about you - from experience, I would never trust a horse dealer despite how honest you think they may be!

Congrats on the yard/choices/confidence etc. but there are some wonderful horses out there in private homes that will be less over priced and just as wonderful.

take another pair of eyes with you (sure you are) and get them to video you - brilliant for looking back later. Shotter and Byers (my vets) are brilliant equine vets so would suggest you use them for the vetting. I doubt Clip clop will allow a trial per se but it is standard practise to allow you to change if you aren't happy - check the t's and c's. Normally it takes a couple of viewings - 2nd time with your instructor and enjoy! and if you don't find something you like then don't panic, it might well take you a while but you are under no obligation or pressure to make a final decision tomorrow.

Yes taking someone with me, if nothing else I would bottle it if I tried to go on my own!

I'm sure there are plenty of great horses in private homes and I may still go down that route but I don't have a lot of spare time (yes I know I'm going to need lots for a horse!) and as I don't have experience buying I thought going to a reputable dealer was probably a better option for me.

Will certainly want to go back for more viewings if I do see something I like tomorrow and will try to make sure that my heart doesn't drown out the head! I hadn't thought of taking an instructor though so thanks for that.

Echo winklepoker.

I'm sure you will end up with a lovely horse but whoever you buy from don't believe a word they say, go on what you see, try the horse in all situations and please use your own vet and be there for the vetting.

Clipclop do have a good reputation BUT I know someone who went to view a horse there and they were shown a lame horse.

Just be very careful it will pay off when you have your very own perfect horse :).

How did you get on with your viewings and who did you try? :-) Good luck with your venture but from experience of dealers in SE be very buyer beware please and defo use own vet!
