the long walk, new/old yard

all being well we will be moving yards Sunday not doing it if heavy rain, good weather is forecast and as it is 8.4 miles and we are doing if on foot, have got mats to move so they will be done by car tomorrow afternoon.

should be a fun trip as she has had 2 months off work, will be tacking up and seeing how we go I may spend some time in the saddle.

shame the route is ALL on the roads due to the A12, A130 and old A130 cutting across our path, fingers crossed the frost is not too heavy as could do with out icy roads and want to get done by 12.30 as we are looking at a new yard for my daughters horse.

we are moving back to a yard with a manege and she can live out at night all year round with an allocated stable, if I can ever find someone who wants there horse to live out I will be very happy
 
Good luck with the move. I hacked to my new yard, but it wasn't more than about 4 miles. Make sure she wears knee boots though. If she gets tired she may start dragging her toes, and a trip is more likely. You don't want to arrive with a vets bill!
 
Good luck!! I also had to walk Ned to his new yard and then he escaped and ran back to old yard. We then found a field and then walked him there...he escaped there too, so we walked him back again! Thankfully he stayed this time :)

Each walk was around 5 miles and I had to do it on foot as he was lame to be ridden. It was actually pretty fun, but I did have better weather :P

Good luck, a had a horse on loan a couple of years ago, cut his head open on the lorry as we tried to load him and he reared up! so a few days later his owner hacked/lead him to us, 15 miles!! and he was an old ex race horse, so he made it find, sure yours will be cool!!
 
Many years ago when I was a teenager I went on my pony with my friend walking next to me 7 miles through the busy town centre to pick up a horse she had just bought at the other side of town. She had to ride him back the same route which was somewhat a baptism of fire for her on her new young Arab. We survived though and the new horse coped surprisingly well.

Hehe! My friend rode her new-ish horse through centre milton keynes to get to a new field...bareback! He was an angel!!
 
well fab weather and fab pony. pulled her out the field for the first time in over 2 months, quick brush, tack on then walked in hand for 30 mins then hopped on and rode the rest. she did not put a foot wrong, very pleased with her as she was only backed properly last year (she is 6yrs),

13.9kilometers (8.6 miles) 2 and a half hours.

she went in sand area for a good roll and stretch, then in stable with plenty of soaked hay, nice and tired rather than arriving fresh and on her toes she is relaxed and calm. has to stay in till tuesday due to worming protocol on new yard, can be ridden, grazed in hand and use round pen and maneges till then though. then out all day every day till |I manage to find someone who actually wants their horse out at night all year round and just coming in for working or 2hrs per day
 
glad it went well. shame had to go long way round but those are probably the worst 3 roads ive ever driven down. usually when going to ingatestone!
 
i mapped it on google maps and going the A12 route is longer in reality (10 miles v's 8.6) just seems shorter when going at 70mph.
lovely hacking round here though so makes up for having those 3 roads on our doorstep
