Does anyone have any experience with this technique? it's a new one on me, only heard of a small number of people using it but am interested to see if anyone has tried it/what you think.
It is possible that we are just well behind the times here and you all know all about it, but that's why I asked! :)

Hi,

Don't know 100% but I think it refers to Jim Masterson, an American Equine Sports Massage Therapist. It will be a variance on Sports Massage using the hands to soften & manipulate the soft tissue.

Hi Clare1691

Yes the Masterson Method does refer to the technique Jim Masterson uses. It is a unique method of bodywork that recognizes and then follows the visual responses of the horse to touch, It is an amazing way to really release tension in the horses body. It focuses on releasing tension in key junctions of the body that most affect performance such as the poll, neck/shoulder/withers junction, and sacro/lumbar junction. If you want to read more this is a fantastic website with lots of instructional videos. www.mastersonmethod.com

I have done all of his courses and am using his techniques and getting great results, I would recommend attending at least the weekend course as this is a great introduction to the method and you learn such a lot that you can take home with you and do yourself.

I've seen the method done on my share horse a 18yr old KWPN.
Made a huge difference in his way of going - was much freer through the back and shoulder after one session.

I've also had it done on my baby highland who had clonked himself on the head with a hind leg scratching  its amazing to watch, to see the tension release and the horse guiding the practitioner as to which bits to work.

I'd recommend it :D

Thanks guys! I watched a session last night and there were some obvious releases - will be interesting to see if his way of going has changed tomorrow! :)
