can you buy them?

My friends horse is rubbing his tail and breaking it off, it's in a terrible state! he has recently moved stables and it didn't happen in his old one that had one of those metal tops on.

I know they are designed to stop biting etc. but she wants to put one on to see if it helps with the tail situation.

Trouble is we don't know where to buy just that bit ??!!

Did he rub his tail in the old stable, or only just started it? Could it be something really simple like his coat is coming through and he's generally itchy, or he's too hot / too many rugs on? Maybe give his tail a really good scrub with good shampoo and hot water...?

Or has he picked up lice/mites from previous incumbent of said stable?

Hehe No, definitely not lice from previous horse - he has actually moved into my horses old stable and we have moved down one to accomodate some new horses further up the line! And my horse is loaned from her

So her horses are now next door to each other - therefore we know what has moved out!!

He has a habit of itching his tail - he did it in the old stable too but with the metal thing on the top it didn't break it and mangle it as much as he's doing on the new door
