The most you'd pay for a lesson?

[ QUOTE ]
We have paid £80 for lessons with Charles de Kunffy which again are very worthwhile but these tend to be treat rather than regular lessons.

Mr Worried regularly trains with Andrew Murphy £45 and Emile Faurie £60 - but incurr travelling costs to get to him so it usually ends up being £350 for a 2 day session!

Would love a lesson with Edward Gal!

I'd pay £80 for a lesson with Charles!

I pay £40 for a 3/4 hr lesson with a classical dressage trainer who herself has trained with Charles and she is worth every penny.
I'd love a lesson with Carl, does anyone know how much he does charge?

as far as im aware, he isnt taking on new clients, or wasnt when i asked around amongst those in the know, in December.
Without being rude i also think he only teaches those above a certain level, which is why im holding off *really* enquiring until the end of this year when my boy will be a proper 5yo and i can say confidently working medium. id love to do a week/5 days of training with him and would muck out all his horses and clean all his tack every day (in addition to paying) if he would take me!

thats just what iv been told.

I think £100 would be my limit.

We're really lucky here as one of my liveries is a BHSI and competing Advanced BD, and she gives group lessons (max of 3 people) for an hour for £15 each, £20 if only 2 people! Really good value

And her lessons are always fab.

I paid £75 for Spencer Wilton and travelled to him, that was for 45 minutes.
At the moment I pay £50 for my trainer for 45 minutes of sweating!!
I am going to Anna Ross Davis on Friday next week for the same price.

Most ive paid so far is £65 for Spencer Wilton, however normal trainer is £35 with an extra £10 for hire of indoor. She's a GP rider & listed judge so i think it's great value for money.

I would pay more for the right person, however i could'nt afford to pay that much more over £65 for training. I would also love a lesson with Jean Bemelman's. Does anyone know if he ever does clinics over here?? I wonder how much they would be if he did, out of my price range i bet.

I use 3 different people and play around at the lower levels competing.
I pay £25 per hour for a local 4* event rider who comes to me. She is always on time, concentrates on me ( not on her mobile) and is always at the end of the phone if I have a crisis too.
I pay £30 per hour for a local dressage rider who comes to me again. She is constructive, improves my horse and my riding and is again supportive when I am out and about.
I pay £35 for 45 minutes with a more advanced dressage rider. Who is friendly, makes a difference to my horse and I and most importantly gives me coffee and cake afterwards!
I am a hobby rider who could not justify paying any more as each person who teaches me at the moment is far more knowlegable than me and improves me and the horse.
Oh and I also use the trainer Princesssparkle mentions who comes over from Spain. He is very reasonably priced and rather inspiring.
If I found I wasnt learning / improving I may look for another person to help- but at some of the prices mentioned above I would expect to enter the lesson as me and leave as anky

I pay £30 for 1 hour but usually ends up been nearer 1.5 Hours. She has competed up to 4* and every time I feel guilty that all i pay. I would happily pay her double for the improvements she has made.

Maximum I dont know, depends on if I thought it would be worth it. But isn't something as I've ever thought of doing as I dnt feel I need anyone else

$500? Jeezz.

I guess I'd probably be happy to pay upto to around £70/£80 for a one off depending on who it was. But that's more because at the moment, lessons like that would be priceless in terms of experience as I wouldn't be training for something in-particular.

I'm more open to money though depending on the person too. I paid £40 odd for a lesson with Robert Pickles once. But I guess it's what you're used to, my local decent riding school charges over £60 for a non-member private lesson

I wouldn't spend over £50 for a lesson unless it was bought me as a present. I currently pay £25 for lessons with a local 4* eventer for as long as it takes (can be anything from 30min to 1hour 30min!) which suits me fine

I was paying £73 an hour for lessons with Chris Bartle, though I think they've gone up now. I save up and go up for several lessons at a time and I think they are incredibly good value based on how much I learn each time. I've been to the YRC less than 10 times in 4 years (or thereabouts!) and yet my riding has been completely transformed. If I lived more locally to the YRC I'd be there much more often, despite the cost.

$500!!!

crikey...

i currently pay £25 an hour for my sj lessons with Michael Potter...which are really good and i thoroughly enjoy them.

my mum had £45 for 45 minutes for her dressage lessons with Liz Taylor, which she really enjoys.

i think our limit for a private lesson would be £50-60 xx

well i used to have lessons with a woman who was £10 for half an hour-45 mins, but her knowlege was limited.. she had competed upto medium, and taught all the pony club teams (int and below) but that was her limits.

I am now movinag yards and Lessons for liveries are £20 for an hour. This is from an internatinal dressage rider... she also does jumping lessons, but will tend to stick with dressage with her.

I usually have my jumping lessons either with the pony club (have a brill trainer!) for £10 with group of 4 for 1hour. Or have clinics at EC centres, and it all seems to be working really well!!

I'm not riding a such a level that it would really be worth my while to pay so much for a top rider - my RI is one of the best dressage riders in Scotland and I pay £25 for 45 minutes.

Where in Scotland are you? I can probably guess who you mean if you are either central or in Aberdeenshire. If it's Central, the person I'm thinking of is a fab rider, but I wasn't that impressed by her teaching

My friend paid £60 for anna ross-davies but that did include arena hire.
I've had lessons with a 4* rider for £40 a go and they were worth every penny!
I ususally go to an ex 2* rider who does a lot of young horse production to a v hugh standard and he's £35 a go.
About right as I'm at novice BE level, I wouldn't pay anymore at the mo, I'm not good enough!

The most I have paid is £80 with my old trainer in Italy (this included her travelling expenses, though). In the UK I used to pay £50 for a 45-min lesson with Laura Fry -- totally worth it and have beautiful memories of my lessons with her.

When I was living near Munich I did *consider* having a lesson with Ulla Salzgeber. Back then (2004) it used to be 250 euros per hour, plus 20% VAT. Then I realised that a month's training would have been better value, but still didn't do it as my horse was 4 back then and we really wouldn't have benefited from it. (well, of course we would have, good training is important at all ages, but it is more difficult to justify it with a youngster!)

To be honest there are trainers in Italy who charge around £200 per lesson and they are nowhere as qualified / as good as Ulla is

I pay £90 for 45mins (although it generally over-runs and she's had me back out later on FOC when we hit problems) for Bettina Drummond. Mark Phillips shared with 1 other 1hour is £50/horse or £75 for private and that is more than worth it.
I am lucky to get free help from a family member who trains with CdK, Arthur Kottas, Stephen Clarke etc!

I don't see the point in spending smaller sums with trainers who don't make a difference. Really decent trainers are hard to find but well worth it.

kingsbarn have andrew gould clinics which are £80 for half an hour which i think is an awful lot!! but i think that price is due to his recent media publicity and being a trainer to KP

[/ QUOTE ]

I was going to Andrews yard up until recently and paying £35 for 45mins. His clinc prices have always been much higher, generally to cover travel/hotel if necessary.

Me to! Only had a few lessons but want to save up and go for a few more in the next few months. Never could work out why £73 - not £70 or £75, just seemed a bit a random figure!

or maybe I've just been very slow on the uptake - hiya anyway

Ludi_doodi - I'm now based in Glos, so I'll have to make a holiday of future trips! Still well worth it though.

I think the £73 probably came about from incremental increases in all the YRC prices over a period of time - can't think why otherwise!
