The New Yard ...famous last words

recent experiences

q. do you have all day daily turnout?

a. yes

Turned out to be 2 hours a day per horse, summer only. I lasted 2 weeks...

on looking for new yard

q. do you have turnout 7/24?

a. yes

me: well how come that white board behind you says, 'mares out today for the morning, geldings the same tomorrow'

a. well thats what we mean round here by 7/24 turnout!

'the dogs quite friendly'

me and another livery spent 1 1/2 hours trapped in our stables by y/o's rottweiler

Current yard are quite honest about what they offer , thank goodneess.

But from the dim and distant past when in the midlands

'its a nice friendly yard' other than when the police were called to split up a yard fight
'the menage is open to all' other than when y/o's lesbian daughter (no offence intended to other lesbians reading) doesnt fancy you and locks it up
'riding straight out onto common land' other than when y/o's wife threatens to shoot you with her shotgun for using 'her' trackway...

Or on another yard

the indoor school is available for every one on an equal basis

Turned out the every one meant only the clique and everyone else kind of funded their use of it...

wow no wonder you're hackedoff! :D
My negative yard experience was nothing compared to what some have experienced but I was still glad to get the heck out of Dodge as they say

What I say:
"No frills, what you see is what you get, if you want pretty my friend up the road does full board for 500 a month."

One rule : "No dogs"

Informal.

What I mean:
No frills, what you see is what you get. Your horse will be happy and healthy regardless.

One rule: No dogs, this is not negotiable, mine will do their utmost to see yours off from their yard, it is a noisy process, and it irritates me.

Informal - this is my home, my yard. Yes, I do wander in and out of the place, my horses live here too, but I'll not interfere, offer advice unless asked, or do more than pass the time of day politely. You can turn up when you like, and ride wherever you like - if the gate is open, use the trails, the jumps, the track, the sand field, dig out.

Ha ha if your not my Yo your dammed pretty close!!!!
This is honestly how my yard is run - its excellent and i love it and my yard owners (husband and wife) would never ever leave .
Must say though - its a two way process, I always pay my bills on time, respect the yard is their home and show basic consideration ie clean up my mess, follow the longstanding yard rules etc etc

The best thing I ever did was move to the yard I'm at now, I don't ever plan on leaving, it's not a big yard, so you don't have to wait to use the indoor school! And everyone gets on. Don't get me wrong people do have there disagreements but it's never blown out of proportion and the YO will always help if you need it! :)
