I have a 4yr old rescue dog and it has taken me ages to sort out his disgestive system but for the past year have cracked it but he has the odd "mistake" at night. He can go 6 weeks without mishap so it is difficult to train him that he has to tell me he wants to go out. I usually feed him in the morning and again at 4.30pm but am now thinking perhaps I should feed him once a day. So should I feed him in the morning so he poos it out all day or should I feed him at 5pm so he is ready to poo in the morning - I usually get up around 6.30am. His poos are very healthy looking and solid so no problems there. Suggestions please.

One of my dogs is on one feed a day and she gets it in the evening.

Labs are on one small meal in the morning and then a good meal in the evening. They get hot water added to it if they've been working all day too. I like giving my dogs a wee feed in the morning, it makes them all waggy

Feeding once a day does reduce the frequency of pooing, in my experience. Any we have fed once a day were fed in the morning, with hot water in winter.

Mine are fed at 6am and 6am, they are outside but fairly regular in terms of their motion - male will often wait until morning and do one after his morning feed.

Ours are fed X amount in total a day.

This is split in 2, smaller amount in the morning, the rest in the evening.
Both with a little warm water, they eat it better with it than totally dry (but not so much water it makes it sloppy just to smell good!
