Given that this is a subject with ever changing answers, I was just wondering what the general consensus was on how long should you be soaking your nets for (for weight loss rather than dust reduction).

Fatty ginge is looking rather portly and I've been mulling over whether to change her from haylage to soaked hay. We've done it before and she did look great, although the thought of hauling around wet nets makes me wants to cry. She also has dust allergies, hence the haylage over the dry dusty hay.

My vet was happy with two hours and then well rinsed in fresh water rather than leaving it in sugary water for hours and hours. I used small 4kg Shires nets and soaked them in the large cattle lick tubs to make them more manageable.

8am to 3pm unless it’s warm then 6pm to 8am when needed. Otherwise 1/2 an hour is better than nothing! Ideally source low sugar hay. Easier said than done!
