The oldest dog you've owned/known?

When I was a child (cue Hovis music) my grandmother had a Lhasa Apso/Bearded Collie/something else that was fuzzy, called Judy, who lived to the ripe old age of 19.5. She was great up until the last year, when she became quite crabby, and went blind in one eye, which is when my grandparents decided to put her to sleep. She was not the easiest dog, but she was loyal and sweet to those she knew and trusted.

Any other long-lived pooches out there?
 
I have a collie who will be 17 next month.He is deaf as a post and abit stiff on the hips but apart from that he is healthy.I was talking to my farrier last time he came as he also has an elderly collie and he said one of his clients has a 25 year old retired work collie who still runs around like a mad thing with the youngers dogs.
 
I had a staffy x and he died when hes 16!!!

My baby, Snowey (named when I was 10!!) lived until she was 18. We had her PTS as she was going deaf and blind and had was fell down the stairs and hurting herself bumping into things bless her. She was a cross Jack Russell and Border Collie
 
Our Staffy x Lab x god knows what was nearly 15 when we had her pts, she was going blind and walking into things - it wasn't fair on her. Most of our dogs have been between 13 and 14.

Chap at work lost his first JR at 23 and lost her son a year later at 24 - bit my tongue as don't agree with breeding that young.
 
My Basset did quite well for their breed. The oldest (Buster) died in his sleep at 14 years old! the other two were put down due to illness associatied to difficult birth/sick puppy (Sophie and Penny). the last Basset (Freud) i had was 10 when he was PTS he had terminal cancer.

All cats i had were 17 plus when they died. Current cat is 14 at moment and still thinks she's a kitten!

I have JRT he's 1 and half!... crikey looks like i may have him even longer than i expected!!

I think it's down to love, happiness and good health that proglongs their life span.
 
I lost my first whippet about a month short of her 15th birthday, she was the last of her litter to survive. I had known of other whippets which had gone on until 17, so I fully expected her to last that long (well, I was only 17 when I got her...)

I lost my little greyhound Jura at only 11, which I think is young for a greyhound, but then others have said it is a good age

Everything is relative, my mum/sister breed CKCS which often die really young - but then my mum has just lost her oldest one at 14 and a bit, so not always the case

Small pedigree dogs usually do very well. Toy poodles live forever. My friend's Bassett was 16 when he died, and Stella's great-grand sire (a BT) was also 16 when he passed away.
 
I once met someone out walking who had an 18yo white german shepherd who looked great for his age. I've not had dogs for long, so haven't had one pass away yet.
 
My collie x and whippet x both lived until they were 17.

the oldest one I knw was a farm collie and he was 21.
 
My first dog lived till she was 21. She was found tied in a bin bag and dumped in a rubbish chute at the age of 6 weeks - we rescued her and she lived with us until the end about 3 years ago.
She was a real Heinz 57 mongrel, looked like she had poodle, terrier, hound and collie in her. An amazing dog, she arrived when I was 18 months old, so I had never known life without her.
 
we had a mongrel in the other day that was 18 and still had a bit of life left in him but owners couldn't afford to keep it anymore,needed meds.Also had another mongrel in last month and that was also 18 but had a tumour that had taken over it's chest.X breeds def last longer and i see all sorts of breeds everyday,and unfortunatley i'm the one that helps do the euthanasia too
