Tomorrow is the annual meet which starts at our yard and to be honest I'm dreading it. I originally thought it was today (being new years day and all) but found out yesterday it is actually tomorrow due to today being the annual shooters meet or something!??!

Anyway all horses not hunting are left in until the hunt have left (meet is at 11:00 so they will be out at 12 at earliest). Most of the horses are in an American style barn which means they will be able to hear the meet but not see it. Fleur however is in a separate section of four stables so she will be able to see and here the meet and shall we just say last year I had to completely remove in full her semi deep littered bed as it was that trashed.

YO is going to try and move her into main barn but depends on what stables are free but doesn't stop me stressing as I know she will try and climb the walls. Flo (housemate's) will be similar if not worse.

I'm just hoping that once moved off they keep away from the farm as if they stay around all day I can just see disaster ensuing. Annoyingly I work too far away to get back any time early and by time I do get back even the hounds will have got back and left.

Anyway they will be booted up and watched over along with all the others not hunting by grooms with housemate on standby to ditch work if needed (she works 5 mins away).

I'm sure they will be fine but doesn't stop me stressing.

Poor you!!
FIngers crossed they move away promptly.
Have had horses injured twice in this situation so understand totally how stressed you are and how powerless you feel.

Personally I don't like ACP and I don't think it would make a suitable impact given the environment and the horses concerned. If the worst comes to the worst the vet will be given an emergency call out (we have good vets!

) and sedated but I really really really don't want to go down that route unless absolutely have to as i'm sure you can understand.

Should have bought some sedalin or simlar really but originally thought it was today so could have been aound (intended to go on long hack in opposite direction to that which hunt was going to follow trail) but found out too late to get any today...

The hunt used to start from my old yard and it was a nightmare. I used to get to the yard early and work her hard so she was tired then put some licks in her stable to distract her as the first and second time it started from the yard she jumped out of the stable! (there were no top doors on the stables)

well start of meet has come and gone and had text from friend who stayed off work to keep check of her horse that mine and housemates are all fine Phew. I think the meet was probably slightly quieter than normal as today rather than yesterday as some people would have to have gone back to work. I managed to sort an internal stable for her as well which would have helped.

I would love to just ship them all off to another yard for the day but my lorry will only transport one and there are 4 between me and my housemate (although only 2 are problematic), and with both of us working today and the late notice of the different day there was no chance without costing us a fortune. As said if it had been yesterday we would have gone on a long hack in the opposite direction for a couple of hours and then the main activity would have left the yard making it safe to return and hopefully then turn out.

Oh well it seems another year over, it is the problem round here though that almost every yard will either be on hunt territory and be passed regulary or will hold an actual meet. Thankfully because of who YO is although the hunt will come close about 10 times a season they don't come close enough to be a problem to the field which mine are in, otherwise I would have left the yard completly by now.
