The online blunder that led a BBC team to unmask Europe-wide dog fighting network

Thank you for the link.
Not even faintly surprised to learn this, but absolutely incredible that serious consideration is being given to rehabilating fighting dogs, that is almost as mindless.

I was just about to say the same. For gods sake, no! These dogs are line bred to fight, that doesnt go away with training. Absolute idiots.

Fighting dogs tend to be excellent around people. An adrenalised hurting animal that needs handling certainly used to be manageable. I don’t know if modern stupidity has overcome that requirement.

But your relying on the people keeping those dogs away from other dogs/small animals/livestock. I wouldnt want to rely on that going by what I see from people generally.

To be sure, identical claims made for various dangerous and illegal dogs, including xl bulldogs - “they’re lovely and delightful with people and children” - until they aren’t.

Yes, I would assume that fighting dogs are worth a lot of money and as such will be highly aggressive under a very specific set of circumstances? They must be kept in kennels of multiple dogs, so if they were triggered by anything and hard to handle they'd be a financial liability. Or am I assuming more common sense than deserved on the part of owners of fighting dogs? I would be interested to find out a bit more about that.

I believe most dogs actually used for fighting are pitbull/irish staff type? Much leaner and more athletic dogs than the status symbol mastiff cross XL things.

The dogs in the Spotlight programmes have been a lot less tall than one would expect. And yes, lean and athletic, nothing like the dogs that are bred bigger to intimidate *humans*.

If you are talking about pit bulls (as in, bred and used for competitive fighting), then those dogs do have a poor record in US and Latin America for also attacking, even killing, people. If they start on other kennelled dogs, the trainers - for want of a better word - break it up with wooden clubs, like baseball bats, crack on the jaw. They may well learn not to have a go at such a person, but are entirely unsuitable as household pets.

The Spotlight programme, which is the subject of the thread, is focused on a UK ring. The dogs in question are relatively small in stature. There are multiple pics and videos of them being handled by humans.
Nobody said they'd make good pets, and there are plenty of breeds and types that also don't make good pets.
As has been pointed out, it's on again tonight if anyone is interested.

The subhumans responsible for the dogfighting in this programme have been corresponding vie encrypted WhatsApp with other subhumans across several different countries including USA….

Yep, be interesting to see what rehab futures are proposed for them, lead pill in my view.

Well, not seen anything in support of alternative careers for fighting dogs on the programme.
Rather, confirmation of grossly incestuous breeding, semen exportation, transfer of dogs and collusion between US and European dog fighting rings.
The rescued bitch featured was a puppy with deformed forelegs, that hadn’t fought, and still couldn’t find a home for.
Doesn’t matter how ‘small’ their stature, pit bulls have a phenomenal lbs per square inch bite and a singleminded focus on fighting. If one could guarantee they would only ever attack other canines, maybe could find them a world entirely isolated from others of their species, but they are regularly documented going for other animals, also humans, and given the bizarre, crazed genetics - should be destroyed, ASAP.
