I honestly wouldn't know how to sum up last week in a few words so have written an epic blog with zillions of piccies, videos and hatcam for anyone who wants the full, gory details of what happened to us at Badders.

For anyone wanting the really short version:
Dressage: 27.8
SJ: easy peasy clear
XC: fell on my arse!

For those who want the long, drawn out version, look here!:

I just can't believe that our special boys did EXACTLY the same thing at the coffin! It wasn't meant to be this year but I have everything crossed that both of us will be back next year to show everyone what we are made of :D

Incidentally - did you get an EHOA completion rosette? I only got the red one :(

Yep, only because I saw other people getting them so specifically asked for it. It's absolutely flipping humongous!

2015 will be our year - Bills and Monts will show the world that half native, half TB is totally the way to get round Badminton!

I think they just wanted to lull next year's opposition into a false sense of security ... Noooorty boys!! I will email them, thanks!

I've just commented on lex2501's thread, but will do so here too! I've been following both of your journey's on here, and it's opened a whole new world up to me. Who knew amateurs on normal horses could have the opportunity to compete at Badminton? Certainly not me! I am hoping to affiliate my own Welsh x TB gelding next year with the ultimate aim of qualifying him for the Badminton Grass Roots champs.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your report, and loved the hatcam footage. What a fabulous horse you have and just look how far you've come!

So what can I say. You've both inspired me - so Thank You!

Fab report and pics. Gives a great insight into what it's really like to do it! Thanks for sharing.
Sounds like a huge amount to be very, very proud of. Well done. And what fantastic experience under your belt to take away.
See what you mean about 'no warning at all' at the coffin! Ouch!

Great report. Real shame about the XC because it sounds like the first two phases were excellent. And actually the XC went pretty well given the holdups and the weather. Definitely an event to be proud of

Nicky , as you know I would normaly never miss an opportunity to rib you for falling off . Cant do it here though , you came off because you were "throwing your heart over the fence"unfortunately that was a pig of a fence and Monty couldnt figure it all out. So you came off . I thought you rode brilliantly and if I could loose half my bodyweight and double my courage I could still only have done half as well as you.(Editors note from Bob the nota cob, Half your age might also help Mike)

Fantastic report and a huge well done to you and Monty - those results for dressage and show jumping are nothing to be scoffed at!
Its a real shame the xc didn't go to plan but I bet you learnt a hell of a lot and that will pay dividends in the long run
Best of luck for the rest of the season and for qualifying for next year - can't wait to see what you get up to!

Well done - I can imagine how gutted you are but it sounds like exceptionally dire and unusual warm up circumstances had unsettled him. Won't happen next year :-)

Fantastic report im so jealous, 2016 im planning (hoping to get there). Monty is lovely and it must be such a shock for them to have so many people around I know my boy would have heart failure. Good luck at your regionals xxxxx

Lovely report and super pics and vids! What a shame it went wrong in the XC when the dressage and SJ had gone so well, but at least you got round and completed, which is an achievement in itself! Hopefully you will be back there next year with a lot more experience and confidence under your belt!

Well done for the good bit and surviving :) He certainly has an exciting career ahead over the next few years even if this year wasn't to be :)

What a great report. Well done for qualifying and completing. There is so many people you have beaten before you even get there. You should be really proud of what you have achieved.

big well done! what a brillant experience and 90% of things went well and the things that didnt you have learned from!! i would call it a really successful competition!!!

Great report, well done! Never mind re. the XC mishaps. There's people who would give their right arm to have the opportunity to have XC mishaps at Badders! Congratulations for getting there and having such a great time. :)

That pic of Monty with your grandad made me cry!

Fab report. I have vaguely followed your reports on here in the past and wanted to say what a huge achievement getting so far has been. Massive well done for completing, with fantastic dressage and SJ and so gutting about the XC but good for you getting round!

Good luck for qualifying this year!

It's lovely, isn't it :-) He loves horses and is always so proud of us.

Great report, what an experience, shame about the blip but you have proved you can be competitive and I wish you all the best for next year!

fantastical report! brill dressage and SJ results.

All the best of luck for next year, I so hope you qualify and get to go again. maybe (just maybe) I might meet you there if luck is in my favour at the regionals.

Brilliant report , loved reading it, a huge well done for completing , you and Lexi have done so well and should both be so very proud. looking forward to seeing you qualify for next time :-) and reading the reports!

Great report, really enjoyed reading & very well done to you & Monty.

What a fab dressage result, you must have been very pleased with. The XC looked as though it caused mayhem, even for very experienced horses.

We are going to try & qualify, don't know if it will be for next year or tens years time, but i would love my daughter to go :-)

Good luck for this year x
