The Pardubice, a proper Steeplechase

The Czech Pardubice, taking nothing away from the Grand National, but this is another class of race. I wonder if it is condemned as much as the GN is.

It is one heck of a race! Do you think they based the cross country race at Cheltenham on this? I notice that they are riding with a good length of leather. I was watching some old footage of the GN and back in the 50's the jockeys were riding hunting style. I wonder when it became fashionable to ride over jumps with your knees under your chin?
