I am bored (as you will probably tell) and therefore obviously going to treat myself to a new grooming kit! :D

Apart from the very obvious brushes, hoof oil etc. what do you keep in yours?

Also what do you store your brushes in? I currently have a bag but want to go back to a box but none seem big enough - what box would you recommend?

suncream :) for the pink nose
baby oil - useful for a lot of things
veg oil - ahem - hoof oil..
a nit comb for doing quarter marks..

i use a box.. good for standing on and can fit lots in.. one of the classic old ones. tool box like but bigger

I have a step and carry box, so I can use it to get on my horse as I don't have a mounting block!

just keep brushes, fly spray/cream, sudocreme, aleo vera gel and random things!

Gosh I couldn't tell you everything I have in mine, mine is one of those under-the-bed storage containers (the see through type - can't stand not knowing if what I want is in there or not!)

Wicker basket with a handle, about 20 years old. Contents are:

1 x hairbrush
1 x rubber curry comb
1 x shedding blade
1 x body brush
1 x pair of scissors
1 x Baby oil has a multitude of uses

That's it.

Hoofpicks are hung up around the place.

When my brushes need washing I throw them away and buy new ones.
I do not possess a hoof oil brush or hoof oil, if hooves need to be shined baby oil on a sponge does as good a job as oil without the mess. ;)

I use a bucket to keep mine in - loads of room, easy to clean, you can hang sprays off the edges and I always have a spare bucket in case of emergencies! It also sits very neatly inside a tub trug, tightly enough to keep a pair of rubber gloves tucked neatly through the handle, so I have a skip for hoof picking / poo all ready to hand and "attached" to my grooming kit.

I keep antiseptic cream and a spare pair of gloves in mine, on top of the usual grooming / fly spray stuff.

I have an old plastic shopping basket (dont ask how i managed to get hold of that!) got brushes, hoof oil, fly spray, scissors, lipsalve (for me) combs, detangler, everything i need every day also have a posh bag with all clean things for shows.

Mines a toolbox, has a tray for hoof picks, pulling combs, hoof oil brushes. And loads of room for my collection of brushes, fly repellent, sun tan cream, cornucresine, hoof oil etc. Plus a little plastic bit that is in the lid, great for plaiting stuff, & strong enough to stand on to plait etc. Think I got it from wilkos & still going strong about 15 yrs later.

i've also got a step'n'carry box, comes in lovely colours and if you take out the tray, theres tons of room. i always have 2 sponges, a spare pair of gloves, fly spray, scissors, pulling comb, and normal mane comb, plaiting bands, plaiting thread and needle and sweeties as well as all the usual stuff. its really useful at shows if you can't find anything to get on from or to sit on or to plait from. :)

- Every type of brush you can think of!!
- Hoof pick
- Vaseline (when he pulls put hunting his mouth gets a bit pink sometimes so I put a bit of Vaseline on him afterwards)
- Eye and muzzle wipes
- Hoof Oil
- Scissors (both trimming scissors and normal scissors)
- Plaiting bands
- Mane and Tail Conditioner
- Baby Oil
- Fly Gel
- Canter Coat Shine wipe
- Coat Shedder

I sorted mine out at the weekend into a box of things I use regularly and two boxes of spare brushes and odds and ends. Think I am going to look for a new grooming box this weekend though to fit everything into as I have so much stuff!!

I've only got a little box for my grooming kit, so it's pretty crammed with: dandy brush, body brush, hoofpick, hairbrush, rubber curry comb, sweat scraper, plaiting bands, scissors, Sudocreme, sun cream, nit comb. Then I've got a big storage box with stuff like shampoo, fly spray, iodine, detangler, coat whitener, as well as my chaps, hi-vis, spare headcollars and whatnot... oh, and baby wipes are brilliant, but I've run out at the moment.
