I am about to remove about 40m of Laurel hedge with the intention of replacing it with something yummy.

I was thinking Hawthorne, slow berry bushes with some rose hip through it. Any suggestions for the ultimate horse friendly hedge?

Ok the ultimate hedge is holly but it's very slow growing and difficult to establish but it gives year round shelter and looks fab .
We have hawthorn and sloe and to be frank I regret planting it especially the sloe which is awful for pricking horse feet after cutting and it also creeps into the fields its a pain .
If I had my time over again I would plant some hedges with holly and some with beech and now twenty five years later they would be all looking fantasic.
