If you had to build you perfect yard, what would you include........??????????????

I would like a clock tower, a solarium and some posh mounting blocks like the ones Carl Hester had to name only a few..........

Heres my ideal yard:

- solarium
- covered silent oval horse walker
- international sized indoor arena with mirrors
- martin collins outdoor 60 x 20 arena with mirrors
- lunging pen
- monarch indoor stabling
- heated tack and rug rooms
- lorry park
- hydro therapy pool

Think thats about it for now, im not that fussy!!

Well, I'm extremely lucky that I am building my perfect yard at the moment. It will have...

Brand New American Barn stabling
60 x 40m floodlit arena
Horse Walker
Round Pen
Solarium
Wash room with hot water
Toilet
Shower
Client's Lounge
Tack Room with individual lockers
Feed Room
Rug Room
5 mile farm ride
1 mile XC course

Only thing I would like is an indoor arena, but that is being VERY greedy

Hope it doesn't sound like I'm boasting

because I'm not, and I know I'm very very lucky.

I'd have all that plus some gallops, off road riding and a xc course with 3 different heights ranging from 2'6" - 3'9" and I'd want the clock tower thing with a weather-vane

I'm not fussy either!

My needs are simple, substantially build stables, clean areas for walking and leading, gateways that are not poached, a floodlit outdoor school or a huge indoor school and enough heating in the tack room and rug store to keep the damp at bay.

I'm very lucky the yard I'm at it nearly perfect (for me anyway) all it needs is some hot water, an indoor school and a bit more grazing!

I love my yard, very basic but lovely - only things I would like

A loo
More lighting on the yard and a plug point for a kettle on our yard instead of the other yard!

REALLY great grazing, with magical turf that doesnt get muddy!!

Light airy boxes

Indoor and outdoor schools... big ones

Tack/rug/feed rooms

Off road hacking

Muckheap that made itself tidy

Solarium

nice little lounge for the making of coffee and the like!!

Hot water, flush toilets, heated rug room......you get the idea!

Ah this is a general problem is it....we don't ask for much from our livery yards do we

my wish list

as above
post and rail fences
mares and geldings separated
a groom
shocked.gif

school that has a safe surface (no felt coming up)
secure tack room
no turn out in the dodgy school
crop rotation ie: horses not turned out in grass up to your knees and then starved for months
shocked.gif

a tap that can be used in the coffee room and not disposable milk bottles, used for weeks

Could I have some of your luck please?

I must admit a lot of those things are nice - but listen to you all - we ride a form of transport that is environmentally friendly and yet you are all for burning unnecessary energy

no - my tackroom isn't heated - but if I clean my tack regularly it doesn't go mouldy - still spare tack in sealed plastic bags - recycled if possible

solarium - WHAT !! - groom the d**n horse - or strapping as it used to be called - VERY good for the horse and also for the grooms fitness ;-))

horse walker - mmmm - known now to cause leg problems - burns energy again

hydrotherapy pool - oh yeah - lets all go swimming - used to be a pool of water without jets (the jets use up more energy)

rug drying - yeah - so what - hang it on a hanger and have two rugs - and use turn and turn about

do I have any of the above - no - are my horses 'deprived' - no !!

and I bet a lot of you that listed those items go home and make sure you recycle all your glass and paper, etc.....

really - the next thing will be centrally heated bl**dy stables incase the poor nag gets cold ;-))

Our indoor stables are thermastat controlled with heating that comes on to keep it constant :P

My yard is pretty great in terms of facilities really. Alterations i would make would be...

1) One of the two outdoor schools would have a fence around it. The other atm has white dressage boards up which works well. But the second is on the top of a hill looking out over the grounds and the number of horses that p*ss off is getting silly :P

2) Both indoors would have more mirrors. The main indoor has one large mirror down one long side and thats it. When everyone crowds in there during the rain, theres an awful lot of 10 metre circles infront of the one mirror going on

3) Hydrotherapy spa

4) A cover over the horse walker

5) More grazing

6) Some kind of all weather surface over the hacking paths that lead to the outdoor arenas. They're getting really really muddy already

7) Some sort of fencing replacement along the hacking paths. They've put up some rather thin wiring that runs alongside the hacking paths to keep the horses off the grass. Sounds good cept Im convinced the poor horses cant really see them
tongue.gif
If they're going to fence them in, they should be post and railed imo, or just remove it all together.

8) Larger boxes. Ours are 12 x 12 so they're sufficient but I'd love really huge boxes. I liveried at one yard that used 18 x 20 and they were so lovely!

9) The rug wrack thingies to actually lower or something! We have heated rug wracks which sound great... and they are... except they're pretty high up on the wall (obviously to stop the rugs trailing on the floor. The thing is, if you're trying to get a sopping wet outdoor rug onto them, they're really hard to lift up and you end up covered in mud :P

self mucking out stables
self emptying wheelbarrows

why cannot we have shovels like those hoovers that 'learn' the room and then go round and hoover ;-))

Id love many acres 20 + surrounded by trees and hedges
a big barn
outdoor school
about 8 nice stables
toilet
Own track surrounding the yard/fields for driving on
