Afternoon all!

Chloe (18month old black lab) is "off colour" (and I dont mean shes not black anymore ;))

She seems much more lethargic than usual, but does seem "sore" on any legs. She'll run after a ball but only once or twice instead of the 100+ times she used to. She just wants to sleep alot when we're at home, isn't really responding to us when we try to cheer us up.

But she's still bright in her eyes, gums right colour and colour coming back quickly when pressed. Dont have a thermometer so don't know her temperature but she's just not right...

Got vet appointment booked on Friday with regards to her ear infection (not related though as I've thought she's been a bit funny for about a month and the infection is really recent) so going to get him to check her out then but just wondering if anyone had any ideas?

xxxx

Cant get her to the right vet til Friday. I'm not worried enough for it to be an emergency. She's still bright.

It has been warm occasionally but its mostly been clouded over and quite rainy, and shes no worse on the hot days. I did consider it could be heat related but I just don't think it is.

I've convinced myself she's got someo horrid blood disease or a tumor or something! But then I can't describe why except that she just feels "off".

This is just what Jess is like--lethargic, not her normal energy but no temperature or other signs. eating, etc all OK.
What's going on with our dogs?
At least I can get to vet tomorrow (could go today but I want to see the specialist)

Oh, should add shes been a little tiny bit constipated but again this is only the last day or two. Still eating like the little pig she normally is!

Sorry to hear about Jess. Let me know what your vet says?

Just spoken to vet. He wants more time to look her over than the 10min appointment you normally get. So going in at half 8 on Friday morning =[ said he's gonna give her a full once over.

is her nose wet? if not she may be sick. maybe search on the internet and see if you can find anything?

hope shes ok! maybe bring her for walks or something? see how she is after them? good luck and hope she will be okaaaaaaaa ;D x

Her nose is wet when she licks it! But sometimes its really dry but shes always had a dry nose unless she licks it! She's weird...

Cant check google as don't know what to type in?! "Dog is a bit off colour"...?!

She might be bunged up. If she is constipated she wont want to bound about, eat much, drink much or do much.

Is there any way you can get her to the vet before the end of the week?

Shes been off for weeks though, and the constipation has only been the last two days and has gone now, two lovely poos today.

I can get to the vets before Friday, but out of the only two vets in practice, one told me there was nothing wrong with my dog when at 4 months old she was throwing up blood, and the other misread an xray!!!! So the only one I trust (and boy, do I trust him) is the one whos in on Friday.

Dingle, she may well have done but shes been off colour for about a month now. Unlikely she'd still be down!

He's asked me to be there early in the morning so he can do a full test. xxxx

Sometimes if they have eaten something they should not of it can sit then move about and cause them to be on and off.

My brothers dog had a little guitar ( plastic from the cracker at xmas) we had no idea at the time he was on and off for a few weeks then came back fine a few months after that i had to get a x ray for something to do with his spine it was sat there in his tummy it looked so funny too it had sat somewhere that was causing him no bother however we did open him up to get it out.

I would say to you vet she could of eaten something she is a lab after all :)

Had a vomit explosion this morning (and I do mean explosion...covered an entire staircase, all up in her ears etc =[) so off to the vet today at 4.

Hi guys.

Vet took full bloods and something about a T4 that he was going to send off? Anyway, blood results tomorrow. She's same old tonight but no vomitting, just very quiet and tired.

Anyway, his opinion is that its a food allergy. However, she only eats her dog food - and its salmon and potato! I.e. what you give to dogs that are allergic to cereals! And I can't believe that if she is allergic to her food she would only chuck it up once in a blue moon. Also shes been on this food 6 months and its only been the last month I've noticed a problem...so I'm not sure.

Is catch 22 when you go to the vets. You want them to say there is something wrong because you know they're not right, but then when they say they do think there is something wrong you're like "what?! thats my baby please dont be sick!"

Spoken to vet this morning. He said everything normal except:

Her sodium is 3% down on the normal.

Her ana....something (proteins) is about 4% up on the normal.

Still waiting for the thyroid results which I should get in the next few days.

If there is no problems with that, we go to ultrasounds for tumours, and then if thats normal a liver test to check on that protein increase.

But at least she's not anaemic and shes not got any disease as her white cells are fine.

xxxx

That was nice and quick with the results wasnt it! Its good that disease and infection are ruled out and hopefully they will be able to work out whats going on equally as fast.

Ye i was pretty impressed when he said it'd only take a day! They have to send off the thyroid one which I think is why thats taking longer.

Has she had a stool test for Lung Worm, just worth ruling out before they start looking for tumors and things, better still Panicur to treat her for it just in case, Lung Worm is rife at the moment so it will do no harm in treating anyway. When my dog had LW we were back & forth to the vets who had missed it and she suffered for a couple of months before going so downhill she had to be rushed to the emergency hospital at Potters Bar where it was diagnosed almost strait away, poor love spent 10 days in the hospital for treatment and recovery.

Hope she feels better soon.

Hope she's ok flamehead, it's such a worry when you can't pinpoint things, but at least her white cells are normal (my cats currently under treatment for a skin allergy thats stumping us a bit).
I have a choccy lab who's 2 1/2. She is intollerrant of certain dog foods and it started when she was a puppy. Apparently some of the natural dog foods still use synthtic vitamins.
I now feed her a dried dog food from the 'Natural Dog Food Company'.
If it turns out to be food intollerance please call them as they have a nutritionist you can speak to and will send out samples.
Hope you get to the bottom of it all soon

Arcrazy no we havent tested for lungworm although she is wormed regularly - but I'll ring the vet tomorrow and ask him whether he thinks its worth testing for. Thank you very much for that suggestion. Can I ask how your dog was suffering?

Thanks millimoo. It is very hard atm knowing shes not right but not being able to pinpoint it either. Would be interested to know if it is a food intolerance. But she can eat whole rabbits in the field without any ill effects?! But if its synthetically made dog food it may have something funny in it.

She's on Symply Salmon and Potato if that rings any bells for anyone - the food you give your dog if they're allergic to other dog food!!!

I had something very similar with my dog too! We were back and forth to the vets, had all sorts of tests etc, couldn't work out what it was. Then he sicked up a piece of rubber and was fine after that!!
