The pup just isn't "right". Help, quite upset =[

No news as yet. Left message for my vet to have a look at lungworm. She's still feeling very sorry for herself, but shes no worse. Thanks for asking =]

Lungworm not the cause.

Thyroid not the cause.

Taking her in now for a test to look at adrenal function and something else...cant remember. Something about feeding her a fatty meal and then giving her a chemical and seeing how quickly they react.

Really upset, shes not right but I cant keep putting her through all these tests. She was alot better this weekend but back to normal now. Or this new NOT normal where shes not acting like my puppy =[

Maybe, and don't take this the wrong way as I don't mean to doubt you that there is anything wrong, but maybe also, she is picking up on your worry, hence the change in mood, as well as the underlying cause?

Dogs are incredibly receptive to our moods.
If I'm nervous of a situation, my dog 'mans up' and goes in first, trying to protect me.
If I'm sad, he will mope around, if I'm happy and smiling he will bounce around and try to hit me in the face with his paw :p

If you're down, and worried, and stressful, so will she be. I know I've said this to you before, sorry if I repeat myself, but it is very, very easy to project onto our animals without even realising x

CC, maybe, but even when I went away for a week (according to my OH) she was just the same. I've also tried reallyyyy hard to still be really bouncy around her. In fact, both OH and I are acting like hooligans as we're trying to make her happy!

She's dreaming atm and her little toes are twitching. Love her so much :( xxxx

Oh I really really feel for you.... I'm sure you'll get to the bottom of it soon.It must be hellish for you. I'm the biggest worrier on the planet and feel like I live at the vets:
1 x Labrador
1 x 16 yr old geriatric cat who eats like a pig, has no muscle, sleeps all day, except when eating, and has arthritic elbows (all bloods and thyroid normal so we're keeping a regular eye on her - more trips, £££)
1 x 18 month old allergy cat, still pulling lumps of hair out even after 4 weeks of treatment and 3 appointments, and about to go for a fourth.
1 x 4 year old fighting with the neighbours cat (it's always the neighbours cat that seeks him out)

Give her a big cuddle, at her age i'm sure you'll get to the bottom of it and she'll be fine, and hang on to the fact that you've ruled out a lot already

Just worried that as we're ruling so much stuff out we're going to run out of tests! Next is that adrenaline test thing, then ultrasound, then what? I suppose then we need to rule out food allergies.

But it just doesnt feel like a food allergy. Firstly, she's been on this food for 6months. Fine for the first 5, only the last month she's been down. Vet has explained to me that they can develop allergic reactions to things, which is fine I understand that, but she threw up quite a few days ago, and then just now. But shes not been sick once in the inbetween days? And she shows no other signs of itchy skin etc etc. The only other thing is that she does fairly regularly (as in, every few months) get an ear infection in her right (only ever her right) ear. But thats happened on two totally different types of food, so I dont think that can be related?!

The only other thing I've noticed is that occasionally slams her butt on the floor. She doesnt rub it on the floor, or scratch in any way, she just slams her bum onto the floor, sits there for a bit and gets up. Anyone have any ideas?

When my dog became intollerant of a well known brand of dried dog food she was fine for about a month. She then got chronic diarrhea, and vomiting. It was so bad she went onto a Probiotic diet from the vets for a week as we didn't know route cause. However as soon as I introduced a couple of biscuits it set her off again - I was very lucky that the vets receptionist used 'The Natural Dog Food Company' and it was the first I tried and she's never been off it. Obviosuly her reaction was extreme, but lets face it, allergies come in varying degrees.
As for the ear thing, my dog went through the same thing, to the point that I was given ear cleaner to regulary clean them out to try and stop it occurring. She's seems to have grown out of it, although going in the river is usually the trigger. In regards to your dogs ear, ask if the repeat infections have narrowed the ear canal, as this can compound the problem - although i'm sure it's just bad luck.
My dog used to be effected by pollen, (she used to get gammy eyes and end up on the eye gel). My vet says he's had a lot of success with Evening Primrose with Bitches. I've never gone down that route as my dog again seems to have grown out of it this year, but may be worth a mention if you suspect allergies.
As for slamming her butt on the floor, I assume the vets checked her anal glands etc. Failing that, i've not idea

Hmm interesting milliemoo. I just dont understand why shed react badly one one day but then for the next week she'd be fine?! Anyway, seeing the vet tomorrow so we'll see.

Poor Chloe, how is she today? Fingers crossed something comes to light at the vets - I mean that in a nice way :o Not that I hope she's ill, but that knowing what's wrong makes such a difference. Will be thinking of you x

Oh trust me NumptyNovice I'm praying that ANYTHING will be found - its the not knowing that is killing me. And more importantly, the possibility of never knowing. Because if we can't find it out, I'm beginning to think we'd have to...you know. She's so unhappy.

Nothing of interest today except that the horse dentist came and thought she looked really REALLY sad too. Vet tomorrow.

If it helps at all Jakey's food allergy was weird as well. He had been on normal dog food for years until one summer he kept having repeated incidents of gastroenteritis. He would be fine for a week or two and then have a really bad time of it with diarhoea. As soon as I swopped him on Hill's Z/D he was fine, but if he eats significant amounts of anything else he can go downhill again. Funnily enough he is well on Z/D low allergen, but when the same company introduced a no allergen feed he was poorly on that again so back on the Z/D.

Hope you get to the bottom of this soon!

Hi guys, sorry you must be bored stiff of updates from me but they're keeping my head together. Ignore as you wish!

Been back in today, she's going in on Tuesday to have that adrenaline test and liver function test.

Vet picked up "laxity" in her stifle joints today, so after this test she'll have x rays on her spine, hips and legs. She has always walked slightly John Wayne like but shes ALWAYS done it so don't think thats the cause.

Anyway, now sat at home cuddling her and crying! Lol I'm such an idiot.

Thanks for all the support. x

Ive been logging on to HoHo simply to see if you have left an update Flamehead so its definitely not boring me.

I dont blame you for crying, you feel so helpless when you dont know whats wrong. At least with a diagnosis you can decide what to do and how to treat the problem.

Im sending big Spangle cuddles for you both.
xx

Yay for spangle cuddles, cant go far wrong with them! In the vets today there were two 11weeks old cockers - HOW CUTE!

My biggest worry now is that there wont BE a medical problem. If they cant find anything, we're going to try those DAP diffuser things, and any other "behavioural" suggestions.

Shes my little baby and I love her to pieces. Very lucky that the vet is taking me seriously and taking whats wrong seriously.

Will keep you all updated. xxxx

Be interested to see the results of the x-ray, bearing in mind the bum-slamming you mentioned. Maybe is a joint/muscle issue and she is depressed as she isn't as mobile as she normally is? Or in pain that she can't express? Just surmising.

Were her parents hipscored? I remember you said they'd had health tests.

As you know (I think I have told this story a million times, sorry :o) my fella injured his back jumping from a great height and he was not happy at all during this period, vet said it could have been made worse by something as simple as twisting in the air for a ball.
Dog at the time was listless, was still out walking but did these great big elaborate nose to tail stretches all the time, which he had never done before.

The only difference to the naked eye was that he was carrying one hind leg carefully, striding out in front and doing a little restricted walk behind, obviously for him, walking normally, he was putting a pull on the back strain so was protecting himself, he never cried, he never showed any other form of pain or discomfort.
Was convinced his hips were shot but x-ray revealed these were fine and the problem in his back was discovered.

Sorry you are really no further forwards with this.:(

Fingers crossed it turns out to be something simple that is easily rectified - on th ebright side she is young so should mend quickly and easily.:)

Having read what CC said out old lab pulled the muscles in her back whilst out hooning when she was young - was quiet and subdued whilst she mended then went back to mental!!:D

Just rang the breeders, mum was never hip scored, dad was but he was done at 6.5 years old, apparently the score was good to average. So definitely worth looking in to whether maybe she is feeling discomfort through her back legs - although she will still hare around for a ball for a little while? So maybe she is sore through them but its fine until she runs around alot. Hmm. She does nose to tail stretch, but I think she's always done that! Although that might not be a good sign........!

The bum slamming is interesting, it might be that shes getting a twinge through her legs or something. Its definately NOT anal glands, so either shes just a bit special ;) or it might be a sensitivity in there.

Well, we'll have to wait and see I suppose. Thanks for your thoughts xxxxxx
