I have now had Tassy 2 years yesterday. When she arrived she was fat, hated all dogs and I was told she should not go off lead, or around other dogs or children. Why we took her on I can't quite say as her restrictions were quite confining! But I have worked my backside off and I now have a dog who can walk out as part of a pack! (did this on new years day with a variety of dogs on the long mynd and nearly cried!) And she has 100% recall, yes even sheep cats and other dogs! I love her to bits and can take her to the yard and is fab with the kids (obviously under supervision at all times) but the point of the post is to give hope to all other owners who have taken on older or rescue dogs with issues- your hard work WILL pay back and it WILL be with the effort. :)

I agree with you absolutely having taken on 4 rescues over the years(or other peoples cock ups) with all sorts of problems it does give you a wonderful sense of achievement when your hard work pays off.

You have obviously done a fab job with yours and what you sow you reap is never truer than in this instance.

My daughter wants me to get a Dobe puppy next time to start with a clean slate:D wheres the fun in that.:D

Thanks for posting this, having lead issues with my small by extremely gobby rescue and I have to remind myself that it's early days... well done on everything you have achieved, you should be very proud!!

I keep telling myself that the next dog will be a nice clean slate of a puppy but actually I think I'd find that a bit boring, I enjoy having something to work on, the rewards are all the sweeter for it. :)

It DOES get better and you WILL be annoyingly smug at some point in the future. :p

Incredibly rewarding. I'll pop some pics up of Tassy tomorrow when I'm not half asleep in front of the fire with them. It's the little moments that make it worth so much. Its seeing Tassy play with other dogs, or snuggle with one of the 10 year old on the yard that you realise how much its worth the work.

Ah, nice story and, like Bossdog says - it gives me some hope too!!! Think we definitely need some pics up though!

She is the 'wolf sable' and Nanook who is 12 months old is the red.
