Hello

We want to go riding on the Ridgeway, but need to know where to park SECURELY. Does anyone stable close by that would allow us to park the trailer (happy to pay a fiver for the favour!) or live close by and have room for us. Or can anyone suggest any alternatives?

Otherwise, can anyone give any ideas as to where we can ride around our way (OX18), within 30mins, for a good, proper hack.

Thank you

We are sick and tired of the rubbish riding around our farm and it is sooo flat our way, we have decided to cast our nets LOL!

There is a car park just off the A34 West Ilsley turn that we use and have never had any problems there.
You are right on the Ridgeway and can go for miles

you can go for miles and miles...have fun
also theres some nice rides towards Goring

The tracks from this car park are pretty obvious and mostly they have horse prints on so obviously others use them.
I think they're are some signs but you won't have a problem, honest!

The council has a proper purpose built horse box car park at Barbary Castle - although that might be a bit far for you? The riding is great though.

You know where I lived for a bit?
If you go into that village and up the hill it takes you onto the Ridgway and there's a good carpark up there.
It's glorious riding- I dont enjoy hacking much but I did up there!!

Oooooooh I love going for a blast on the Ridgeway!!! I've also used the car park just off the A34 at West Ilsley and haven't had any problems.

If you use the left hand car park as you come up the hill then head down the Ridgeway (without crossing back over the road) there's a bridleway signed on the right-handside (before you get to the tunnel under the A34). This goes down a hill by the side of the gallops and through a village (Think it's one of the Ilsley villages but not 100% sure). Go past the pub and then theres a track on your right (last time I went there was a field with some horses and sheep on the left of the track and houses on the right). There are a few hurdles and a SJ wall that you can jump on the left and then a lovely uphill track that is pefrect for a good old blast!!

Be careful to look where you are going as the gallops are roped off - you don't want to get tangled up!

When you get to the end of this gallopy section turn right onto the main ridgeway track and you'll be heading back to the car park!

Enjoy!!
