Many thanks for all your recommendations for rocket fuel for my little cob! He had his first outing for many months and got 67.5% in Advanced Medium 85 and was second overall in quite a big class, ahead of some very fancy warmbloods (the horse that was placed first was only 1.3% ahead) . His amazing rider said that he had much more energy than last time out so the combination of Turbo Flakes, water treadmill, hacking and hill work and some schooling is all having a good effect. He is also clipped out, had his saddle adjusted and has been seen by our chiropractor who is a qualified vet.
I think I'll switch him to crushed oats and a tiny amount of linseed oil once this bag of Turbo Flakes is finished. Reducing sugar levels and increasing the omega 3 should be better for him long term? He has very definite ideas about the timing and amount of food that we should be providing! He lives out and gets haylage and hard feeds on top of grazing so he isn't starved but is totally food obsessed and dealing with a 'hangry' fit cob is 'interesting'.
