I understand that the Underground Staff are threatening to strike, on the day of the wedding!!

I suppose that you have to take the opportunities in life, as they present themselves!!

Alec.

Dont we just love to rain on our own parades ? - bet we get the same strikes for the olympics - gosh i bet 80% of folks out of work would give their right arm and leg to be able to work on a bank holiday! I know i would

well said DDM mustn't give in to these morons, as a self employed farmer lambing 120 ewes at moment then 400 march /april doing all hours godd sends no triple time plus/or days off in lew and son just been put on 3 day week, they want to br grateful for a decent job, just off to check two lambing sheep now is that double time!

Be interesting to see how skilled the management is then in averting strike action. In my experience, moron managers who don't listen to workers on the frontline cause resentment and bad feeling. Skilled managers are the ones who listen to the root cause of grievences and work out compromises when possible or play fair by keeping workers fully informed with the facts.

It isn't really any different to airport staff striking on bank holidays etc to cause maximum disruption to the public in the hope that the backlash will get them their own way. I suspect the unions will be very sorry if they push this, watch out for new legislation that they may prefer not to be implemented that will prevent them taking this sort of action in the future!

It seems to me that the employment laws are a pendulum. They either, depending on government direction, favour the employer, or the employee. The pendulum never seems to stop.

Before unions had any power, most employers abused their staff. When the unions were all powerful, then they became similarly abusive.

I have recently sold my business. Seven years ago I started to employ staff, and to say that it was an eye-opener, is an understatement. I only employed a very few people, but the constraints which I was under were crippling. I was in-fact very fortunate, in that by and large those who I employed were conscientious, and showed the same consideration to me that I did to them. I count myself lucky.

I agree with every point made so far, by others, except that, the grievances generally revolve around money, or the perceived lack of it! There would also be little point in strikes being called for, when they have minimal effect.

It's just the way of the world, I suppose, but sad, just the same.

Alec.

I really hope they are not allowed to. If they are trying to get attention for simple attentions sake they will get it. If they do it trying to get attention for support they won't get it. They will be resented and rightfully so.
