A few weeks back, I posted that I had to call the RSPCA about a TB horse in a REALLY bad way - body score 0.5, just a pure skeleton tbh. And I promised to keep you updated.

I am a "retired due to injury" former Inspector, and in my time I would NEVER have not contacted the caller. I am a staunch believer in what the RSPCA stands for, altho I know many don't agree, and I am sooooooo disappointed that, even after giving them my (Insp No ) details, they still haven't bothered to contact me.

I am going to try and get thru to complain, but honestly, I now understand why the RSPCA is getting such a poor reputation, and it hurts me to say it. *tears*

sm x

EDIT - I have just spoken to them, and have been told that the Inspectors are told to not contact the caller until four weeks after an investigation has started !!!! Bloody hell, I've never heard anything so ridiculous - just to know they have been is all I needed to know. That they found the horse, and would then contact me in four weeks. The world has gone MAD.

Such a shame that a horse has been left to reach that condition, and that you haven't been contacted 80( Do you know if they've at least done something about the horse? Presumably not if they've failed to get in touch...

just added an edit to my original post. Even more sad now *sigh*. What happened to my beloved RSPCA, and the respect for the caller, eh ?

Many callers didn't want to make the call, and they'll be left feeling stupid and irrelevant, like they've caused a fuss about nothing, if they don't hear anything for such along time. Disgusted tbh.

Is it for legal reasons? I suppose then I can understand it. I'd be starting to give up hope if I didn't hear back for four weeks though, I might even call them again and waste everyone's time.

No, they wouldn't be able to give anything away anyway - at the earliest stage I used to contact the caller, tell them if I was concerned, and ask that if the matter was serious, would they be willing to be a witness ?? I mean, the caller could be a huge help.

In fact i would often phone the caller BEFORE I went out, if it sounded serious, and even to check i was in the right place.

If callers are not part of the loop, they will not call again. And animals will suffer. Period.

they say they appreciate every call and understand how difficult it must have been so surely they should contact the person and say that they have found the horse/premises and will look into it further OR they couldn't find the horse/premises or they found nothing wrong. at least that would prevent worrying from the person who complained and also might win them back some kind of respect.

That sounds absolutely ridiculous! What if within the 4 weeks the 'caller' still has not heard anything and has started to call other organisations or starts to bombard them with calls again? A couple of days at the most I would have thought........:( Very strange. Anytime I have called the SSPCA I have received call back within hours or a couple of days.

Hi

I havent had to call the RSPCA for a horse but an old horse was reported and they came straight away to see it(it was my relatives old boy 36 years old and laid down more than a younger horse). They knocked at the door and said they had been called as someone reported a neglected horse. However even before they knocked they had already inspected the horse and could see it was well looked after and elderly. But he was quite a bony thing and did lay down more. So they did come out then to check up which is good, they were very nice about it.

I have always called the RSPCA for wild birds caught up in fishing lines etc(the RSPB are more concerned with the law..thats what I got told) and the RSPCA have been brilliant. Years ago I reported a neighbours dog that I thought was being neglected and they informed me straight away that they had been.

Keep us posted as I hope this is just a blip in their process? Trouble is if someone thinks they are about to be investigated the last thing you want is the horse to get moved?

the RSPCA investigate complaints unnannounced ( as opposed to booking a time for a visit - what's the point in that !!). And serious ones unsually within 24 hours. The caller has no wish to be found out, they will only be if they want to give a statement, and I always found them very helpful in dealing with whatever was going on. Sometimes they wouldn't be happy if there was no problem tho

I would a) find out if an attendance has been made, then b) check your telephone number taken on the initial call is correct. If both answers are yes then send a complaint &/or ask for the officer dealing/dealt to call you, there's no excuse, and without complaining the local officer is not going to learn. Of course it could well be the case that the local area have been too swamped to make a call to the field yet, or the number taken was incorrect and therefore the officer has been unable to phone you. If attendance has not yet been made I'd advise you contact WHW, bhs have not given me any confidence in past dealings!!!

Hehhehehehe - ggod news. No let us know how long it takes for them to contact you about it ;)

At the end of the day the animal is the huge priority. I just wish I knew what had happened with my poor TB.
