I keep seeing them advertised as totally adjustable by Saddle Company fitters.
How adjustable are they? Some ads sound like they could be made to fit anything but would I be correct in assuming they are as adjustable as say a wintec ie the basic fit must be correct but adjustments can be made to allow for weight gain etc?

No, they're wayyy more adjustable than a wintec! They have serge panels so nice and comfy for the horse and if you pay better money you get a better saddle. I love mine and wouldn't be without it. improved my horse so much and have an amazing saddle fitter too :)

That was going to be my next question, how easy is finding a fitter?! I like the look of them. I suppose my real question is if I was to buy one off eBay could it be adjusted to fit my horse or would that be as hit and miss as buying any other saddle on eBay (something I'd not normally do )

My haffy has a saddle company saddle, but he had to have it made to measure as he is so wide no withers, just a real table top. His saddle is XXXXX's wide , I thought the fitter was windign me up when she said how wide he needed :o. I got a fitter easy as there is one not to far from us

Watching this thread with interest, as been thinking about getting one of these for my still growing 4 yr old sec D . Have her in a treeless at the moment as this will move with her as she changes shape but just cant get on with it my self.

I love mine :D I have got the full leather Genoa in working hunter style. It was slipping slightly on one side and my saddler (who is not a SC fitter) advised that it may need adjusting and a balance strap fitting.

I phoned the Saddle Company and they told me to send it back to them with a template. I took several templates along her back, starting with one where the tree fits under the skirt and explaining the distance between them, then left it to them.

Total cost for job = £47 for adjustment including leather balance straps each side.

With postage total = £62 and I got it back the NEX DAY ! :D

I just bought mine off a friend and had it fitted to my horse. Make sure you get a sc fitter that brings the altering machine and flocking equipment with them so you don't have to send the saddle off :)

That's funny sb I really struggled to find a fitter round here and she has to travel about 40/50 miles to me.

Yes I had the same problem. I had to pay a saddle fitter £100 to come out and adjust saddles which turned out weren't that adjustable after all. I bought two saddles for each of my horses - one a still growing Irish Draught which cost £1600 and I had to sell them just a few months later for about £300 each as they no longer fit. I always thought the panels were too narrow but was assured by the saddle fitter that they weren't. Looked like rolling pins to me.

Totally disillusioned with them and I'm not the only one either.

I have owned one of these, I had a Dressage Saddle Co saddle. It is a lovely saddle, the only problem I had was trying to find a decent fitter. The second fitter I had after we had moved mucked up the saddle totally and wasn't really qualified, only did a course. I ended up changing my saddle to an Albion - best thing I ever did.

Personally I wouldn't touch another one of these with a barge pole having had two awful 'saddle company' trained fitters both make a complete mess of fitting and ending up with a horse with a very sore back.

I definitely wouldn't buy one from e- bay in the hope that it can be made to fit- even buying one from an 'approved' fitter I ended up with a saddle that was too long and too forward cut, no amount of 'width' adjustment was going to fix that!

If you do decide to get one OP, please be very careful who you get to fit it- personally I would only be happy with someone who was highly reccomended who was an SMS qualified fitter who had also done the saddle co training- definitely wouldn't use someone who had only done the saddle co training!

I sold all my saddle company saddles. Not sure if it was the fitter or the saddles but my one horse ended up with a badly damaged back. As did my neighbours horse in same brand saddle.
So now have native pony saddles.

they are comfortable and the serge is kind to the back provided it fits well! however quality wise they wont stand up to hard work (unless you pay top money for the nicer models but you can get a much better saddle off other companies for that sort of money) and alot of them that i have seen that friends and people on the yard own are asymetric so if you buy one check that the panels are symetric!

and as for the SC fitters, they do a one day course (that will cost you £240!) before going out fitting (you can find details on their site)

I have been very pleased with mine and my horses have been very comfortable.
They have proved very adjustable and I have bought 2 off ebay in VGC and I had one custom -made for a very odd-shaped pony. You do need to have a good idea of the type/size etc that will suit if you are buying secondhand but I think they can be good value for money.

However I need to find a new saddler as the last lady no longer covers this far away.
Anyone know a good fitter covering South Bucks? (sorry OP ).
