I'm looking for a couple of bits of advice really.

My mare had some sarcoids treated with the Liverpool cream and there was a particularly nasty one on the girth area that was treated with the 100% cream. The sarcoid has now 'dropped out' and left a hole probably 1/2 an inch deep and 1.5 inches wide. It is healing well but I can't work out the best way of keeping flys off it.

It's in the middle of the girth area, my vet said the hole is normal but with the flys as bad as they are in this warm weather I want to try keep them away. Also my vet said that flys are what spread the sarcoids which after spending £££ on treatment I really don't want that :( any advice would be great :)

I had a sarcoid ringed on my mare in the same area and it fell straight off leaving a hole probably a little smaller than yours. I filled the hile with manuka honey and used fly cream around the hole. Mine did start to granulate and i was worried it was going to develop proud flesh but it is going down nicely now. I have weekly photos of the area if you want me to see them.

manuka honey with pad on top and then as it's on the girth area vet wrap or bandage over the body a couple of times to keep the pad in place?

My horse had a similar size hole in his side in the march heatwave. I dressed daily with manuka honey & an adhesive dressing, put extra tape on edges of the dressing as well. Someone lent me a fly rug & I gave him a good spray with fly spray as well. Took about 3 wks for it to get to a stage where I could stop dressing.

Hi there - I have a 3yr old that has just had a sarcoid removed by laser as so has an open wound at the moment. The vet suggested, and supplied, the yellow Summer Fly Cream as standard aftercare. He said that wounds will heal well under it and advised completely covering the wound in it, especially, as you said the flies could transmit sarcoids back into the wound!
