We took Dads oss Tully for his first attempt at XC today, he was a typical baby but got going quite nicely. We got to fence where you jumped a little wall into quite a small area enclosed by a massive post and rail with a strand of electric fencing (turned on) above it, you were then meant to turn right 90 degrees over another fence and then turn right again and back out over another little wall.

So, he popped in quite enthusiastically, turned right over the next fence, then locked on to this bloody massive fence!! It was about 4'6'' and he's only ever jumped about 3 foot!! Anyway he hit it but some how managed not to fall, I went flaying though.

we were both ok and carried on and he was a good boy, but it really frightened me as it could have been a really horrendous accident!

Not quite sure what was going through his head, but I've got to give him credit for taking it on and getting over it!

Think I need to have better brakes/steering for next time!!

haha, yea at least it shows he's got a bit of ability!

Dad's only a happy hacker now so I get to do all the fun/dangerous stuff!! I demanded he buy me a bottle of wine after, compensation I guess you could call it!

That's even better, you can get him to pay all your entry fee's as well and then you really do get all the fun

I think several bottles are probably called for, you did great

Lets hope it means he's got lots of potential then!

I must admit I was quite impressed he actually made it over ok, it was the kind of fence even the most crazy huntsman wouldn't attempt out hunting!

Thing is, he can jump that but then a 2 foot fence that was a different colour of wood to the previous fences was reeeaalllly scary!

horses, who'd have em??!

Lol see its crazy they happily jump a big fence but then for some reason a 2ft fence is really scary. Maybe he thinks im not doing that will ruin my ego

LOL, yea maybe so, well he caused a bit of a stir anyway, everyone seemed to be looking when I picked myself up and when dad took my number back they said "well nobody's horse has ever done that before!!" So i'm sure he'll be feeling quite important with himself!

Bless him, i think he must have thought that was what we were supposed to be doing!

Haha how embarrasing but I bet he felt proud of himself, Maybe you should invest in a seat belt

He sounds a star you should get him out competing make sure you are insured though and have wrote your will out

You will be fine get doing it.

He's 5 and only been out of the trainers yard a few months so we are just doing baby stuff at the mo, maybe he's trying to tell me he wants to get onto bigger and better things!

Yea, Dad seems a bit attached now though and says he doesn't want to advertise but if someone comes along and offers a good price he'll sell him (likes thats gonna happen!
