I have friends who foster puppies for DT and it’s frightening how many are seized at the ports , and even more worrying how many more must be missed . Amongst others they have had huskies , rotties and labs so it’s not just toy breeds .

I think demand for puppies is going to ensure that this continues. People decide they want something and in my experience don't really care to ask too many questions provided they can have it now.

Why bother putting your name on the waiting list for a good breeder who might not have any litters planned for the next year when you can go on gumtree and take your pick. Why bother going to a rescue when they generally don't have cute puppies "in stock" and everything you read online claims they're inpossible to adopt from.

I know 4 people who've bought 6 puppies between them in the last 10 years or so and only one of them bought from a "breeder" that didn't set off warning bells for me.

While folk bury their heads in the sand or worse, are happy enough to this fuel demand nothing will change.

I really hope that the 24 weeks becomes law. I dare say this won’t actually stop it happening but a single dog less is a start.
Humans are despicable.
