I have nothing against field sports whatsoever except when they shoot or hunt directly behind your field with two horses in and don't let you know they are coming!

We had a shoot meet in the field behind my paddock today. Fortunately I got my horses in when I realised what was going on but they were both hyper. My mare broke out in a sweat and was shaking and my grey boy seemed to be having an adrenelin rush. He too broke out into a frothy sweat and you could see his heart racing. He was spinning around his stable and he's normally the sensible one.

I left them both in with cooler rugs on and hopefully they will have cooled down and dried off by the time I go back up to the yard. Anybody else have this problem?

I would suggest that you refer them to the The Code of Good Shooting Practice copies of which are available from The Secretary, Code of Good Shooting Practice Marford Mill Rossett Wrexham LL12 OHL Tel: 01244 573 019 Fax: 01244 573 013.

Get some copies to hand out to them.

It is states ' Shoot managers and guns must have special regard to the safety of riders and their horses. Where possible shhot organisers should liase with local riders or yards informing them when shoots are taking place. All guns should be made aware of bridleways andf other rights of ways as well as any fields in which horses are kept'.

Exactly, just what I was going to suggest. Hopefully they are members of BASC. If you go onto the BASC website there should be quite a lot of useful information there.

Last season there was just a notice on a local bridlepath that said something
"Shooting in progress" this season they have actually posted a list of dates when they will be shooting, which is much more helpful.
