Not much point to this thread other than to say, having treated myself to some new tack and now sitting in the kitchen inhaling the lovely smell, I think new leather has to be up there with a barn full of new hay on the Best Smells in the World list. Mmmmmm!!!!

I love that smell, too. I made a little leather key fob out of bridle leather so I can have a little hit whenever I want.

And often, when I take out the bins in the evening, the smell of the horses at the two yards across the street, or the one in the neighbour's garden, drifts over on the breeze...

My workshop has around 20 full hides in it at any one time so people who like the smell of leather who come in to it are happy to stand there for an hour inhaling the aroma!

I've not been to see my leather supplier for almost two years, and I miss it. A room of around 36 square metres with shelves two metres deep along two walls, floor to ceiling, with all kinds of hides laid flat on them, and a splitting machine with a bin full of scraps next to it.
