I do hope that this is not seen as advertising, that isn't my intent, but......

I would very much like to source a filly or mare, by Master Imp. Just any old mare wont do, it would be vital that she had a mare line to support her. Her dam must have either succeeded in competition, or be very well bred. Failing that she must demonstrate a real ability. In short, she needs something to recommend her, other than her illustrious sire.

I'm happy to advertise, and pay for the privilege, but where would you look, if you were seeking such a creature? I'd be grateful for your advice.

Alec.

There is a TB mare by Master Imp advertised on Horse Quest under brood mares . They dont mention dam lines but might be worth a phone call .

Hi Alec....if u do not mind Ireland have a gander on donedeal.ie u can keyword search Master Imp and 100s of creatures go on every day. U can advertise on there for 3 euro ?......just like H&H ...she coughs! So u could post a wanted. Have some great contacts if u want anyone to look for u. I brought a really smart one back out of a Skyboy mare.....however she has just started eventing. Pm if u want to chat further. Check the online Goresbridge sales.....great fun to go excellent loose jumping facilities and about 6 miles from where the stallion stood so plenty around.

Master Imps are easy to find, but the ones who have the good eventing family relations are not so easy. I thought I had one sourced but she was snapped up when I rang the second time to organise a viewing.
So back to combing through families I go. The mareline maketh the the horse!!

This is extremely difficult to answer. Mares’ fertility declines from around 12 years old, but unlike humans, equines do not go through a “menopause” or anything similar.

Generally we do not recommend putting mares in foal past their 17th year (foaling in their 18th) although a number of people breed from their mares well into their 20s.

Get your stud vet to give your mare a thorough breeding examination and general health check, and talk through the options with them. This will give you the answers you need to make a sound decision.
Although many fillies are fertile from 6-8 months old, they are not normally physically or psychologically mature enough to carry and raise a foal until they are 3 years old. Some two year old mares may be mature enough to be bred, but it will depend on the individual mare.

Consult your vet and ask their opinion.

??????????????????????????????????????

I wanted an eventing mare by either Cruising or Seacrest and it took me over three years of searching to find one .
I spent ages most evenings typing the names into search engines with for sale after the key words and found quite a few in the end, but only one suited our stallion's conformation perfectly.
I would post a wanted description on as many Irish forums as possible as they appear to have such a huge number of horses, plus on all the breeders' pages on facebook, here and internet magazines.
You will find one but because they know you want one it won't be cheap!

Two options: trawl BE records for Master Imp mares with track records, The Diva and Dressed To Impress are two such daughters or as suggested, a Wanted ad in H&H if you want to 'confine' search to UK-based mares.

Second and most logical option if you're prepared to extend search to Ireland - go to the source. Who better to know about any stallion's progeny than his owner(s)?

I'd know of a couple of MI mares for sale and others not for sale for love nor money, but if you're looking for one from, say, Sly's Girl, a Master Imp - Clover Hill full-sister of the Grade A Master of Moments and the dam of Ashdale Cruise Master, then that one & same phonecall will let you know whats available in that locality. Will PM contact numbers in order not to contravene Rule 108, sub-section 4c of the desisting from advertising clause. ;)

Alec there are a few on donedeal that might be worth a follow up.
One 4yr old advertised for sale: http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/horses/3115116

Another option would be to contact Slyguff directly and see if they have any mares that they would be willing to sell.

I was looking for one for a while too but got a Kings Master x Cavalier proven competition mare instead. Not Master Imp but softened the blow.

That was the phone number that I passed on to the OP. ;) I don't know if they have any for sale but would know of many MI mare owners in one area. For me, that's a logical first step rather than wild broodmare chases/random ads/waiting in carparks for "Sure whatever you'd like her to be by, sir" clowns.

A further disclaimer: I'd desist from ringing stud owners with non-serious enquiries in the busy covering/foaling season.

If it's the family I'm thinking of, you done good. Very good. :)
