It's been a while since I've done one of these :)

Tris is still happy at the yard we moved to, I love it there and YO has told me that Arya can move in whenever suits! :D

Winter has been a bit of a nightmare (as it has everywhere) bit we are finally moving on to summer fields at the end of next week! Hurrah for less mucking out!
XC fields and hay field have been opened up for riding, however we're discouraged from jumping at the moment. This isn't really a problem for us as I haven't ridden Tris for quite a while and figured that it isn't an awful idea for me to stay on the ground.

We've been working on our in-hand lateral work. Shoulder in is looking good and travers is coming along nicely. My mental health has taken a hit lately, and as Tris can be stressy, hot and unfocused, it made sense for us to spend more time 'playing' in the fields than schooling. There are some pretty decent slopes for us to use and he quite likes hopping over small fences on a lunge line.

I'm really pleased with how he's looking at the moment. He could be a little lighter and a have a bit more top line, but is hugely improved from this time last year.

Arya is awesome. She huge, soppy and so, so willing. It took me a grand total of 5 minutes to bit her, in the field, and most of that was spent adjusting the bridle. She moves her quarters from pressure "behind the girth", happily yields her shoulders, backs up and circles. While I see her every day, 'work' is sporadic as she knows what she's doing and there really isn't any need for me to keep doing it over and over and over.

Once I move her to the yard I have Tris at, I'll start to introduce her to longreining. The current yard has been ideal for her, but I'm not comfortable with doing much more with her in arenas that don't have fences. She's so, so good, but accidents can happen and I'm not willing to risk anyone's safety.

Tldr: My ponies are awesome, I love them lots :p

Gorgeous, and I'm loving Arya's socks..!! What breeding is she..??

She's out of a Tycoon x Consul mare (dual graded Hanoverian and Trakehner), from the 'Elfe' Line, and by Volatis Defiant (Showmaker x Stanhopes Dueka). The dam is 16.1hh and the sire has a certificate saying he's 16.3hh, but realistically is a bit taller! Arya definitely takes after him! ?

When I saw your pic it made me think our spotty has a twin! How is yours bred? Ours is a NF x appy. (Not the best photo as I took it quickly in the field this evening and he wanted grass!)

Oh my gosh! I did a bit of a double take just then!

Honestly, haven't a clue. I did meet his dam and sire, but none of the breeding is recorded.. The spotty gene could be from anything goodness knows how many generations back. There's just a whole lot of cob in there ? your boy is lovely! I think I'll always be a sucker for a nice spotty!!

Got to love spots!

I remember when you bought Arya, how old is she now?

.

Agreed!

She turned two on Sunday :) for most of the year, she's done nothing but play in the field. It takes very little time to teach her anything!

I'm glad that she's still gangly and very much looks like a two year old - I can see how it could be very tempting to crack on when you know that they're going to be big!!

She's good looking for a two year old, and quite mature too. Shes going to be a big strong girl. They can be like donkeys at that age, can't they.

.

Thank you! Thankfully she's one that prefers to work with you!

I've seen some shocking 2yos.. but her half sister (same stallion, mare from the direct motherline of Ferro) looks so much more mature - I can't help but compare the two of them. Also, I think I got quite lucky on the camera angle! She's much more rangy when you see her in person, but has changed shape a lot over the last month. Very excited to see how she'll look this time next year.

Should have added that ours is just over 15.2 and when he goes into giraffe mode seems even bigger! We thought he was going to make around 15hh but he just kept on growing. His dad is a bay and and his mum is a leopard spot.

Lovely horses, your youngster has legs for miles!

Very random and un-asked for observation on first photo of Tris, does he have any heel discomfort in front? I saw he stands with his fronts camped under him a bit and is over developed under the neck and you say he lacks topline. You also say he’s stressy. This is exactly the same as my pony, and I’ve only just realised it’s down to sore heels (deep sulcus I think maybe harbouring deep seated thrush?). The minute I put hoof boots with pads on he stands more correctly. I’m pretty sure his over developed muscle under his neck is from counter balancing that camped under stance and once I get the heels sorted I will see a change in his topline. And he’s way less stressy when he’s not sore.

Might not be relevant to yours but it’s taken me so long to realise that I thought I would share!
