Well the shoes came off today, ill attatch some photos any comments welcome.

Will be using the transition period to work on groundwork and in-hand, horse is a 15hh L/W Cob type.

Am hoping to find a barefoot trimmer for next time as my farrier isnt very forthcoming with advice... all he said was that the horse may crack up a little, if anyone can expand on this id be greatfull.

(Front shoe was pulled in the field two days previous)

Good luck! The frogs look in quite good nick and nice wide heels :) not an expert by any means; expect cracking while the nail holes grow down, but you could tidy these up yourself if you have a rasp.

I presume you have the diet in order? ie low sugar/low starch/magnesium/linseed all good for hooves

Look on here; for lots of good information

Thank you! He is on a good diet at the minute I don't want to make to many changes if there not needed as he's been difficult to get weight on. I'll just manage it and make changes as we go.

Really excited to see the changes and actually be able to see what going on under those shoes!

What diet is he on? I'm currently putting my tb barefoot as he has problems and hoof boots are a god send couldn't cope without them

Feet look good but why do farriers have to chop the frogs off like they do. Have u got boots to help him along?

I did wonder that about the frogs?! No boots yet will measure him tonight but there are soo many different ones how do you know what will fit?

he is currently on simple systems which I know some people don't like if I were to need a change I have heard good things about fast fibre.

Really frustrating that they don't seem to sell hoof boots in stores for you to have a look at, so will have to order online.

looks like a nice cobby foot, intro linseed oil into the diet, get feet tidyed every 8 wks. farriers generally tidy a frog to prevent thrush building up .. ie let air at frog. photo 5 looks like the frog is prominent whereas it should be level with heel height to load.

For boots, have a look on the Easycare website, gives you lots of info about the different boots and how to measure. Also google Cavallo, these are just about the cheapest ( and easy to put on!) boots.

Once yo've sorted which boot would suit your horse the best, and which size you need, have a look on Ebay :) or the Phoenixhorse forum.

Personally, I love the G2's, great tread but a bit more pricey than the Cavallo's which are brilliant too but do tend to wear down quicker. Saying that a pair lasts me well over a year.

nice strong looking feet. yes you will get a bit of crumbling when you get to the nail holes. i would just see how things go! no need to change things or your farrier he has done a nice trim, tidied up the frogs to eliminate thrush etc. he might be a little bit sensistive for the next couple of weeks til he adjusts to barefoot. a bit like when you go o holiday .. you gimp over the sand/stones for a wek next week you are fine! sorry i cant go with barefoot need special diets/ supplements lark. some are fine some are not
