The state of our Bridleways!

Are your Bridleways maintained, I hacked out last night, its was a gorgeous hack, huge views for miles and miles, now spoiled by the fact I spend most of the time with my bum in the air hugging Horses neck as the branches are so low, Its such a shame and so annoying not being able to go faster than a walk.

No money to maintain them

There is no money to maintain them, you could get a working group together and spend a couple of mornings lopping branches.

Set up a working group, speak to the council for authorisation and go out armed with hedge cutters and bags to clear

Unfortunately, as others have said, councils frequently now have to divert resources to other areas in the current economic climate. Joining a local group is a brilliant idea to help protect, promote and maintain access in your area - have a look at the info on Affiliated Bridleways Groups and Rider Access Groups as a starting point, or contact your local BHS Access Officer (see the Committee lists in each region and county) for help and advice.

Contact the Access Department of your loca County Council and advise them of the problem and the precise location. Alternatively as above.
