Hi Guys!

Haven't posted in awhile but felt like I should share this as I know this riding school has gotten a bad rep in the past.

I have just had my first riding at The Three Greys, and loved it! Decided to start going for riding lessons again as found that my riding was getting sloppy, lazy and just down-right bad. Haven't ridden properly (as in riding more than twice a week and doing more than just slopping up the roads in walk) for nearly 2 years and have had my confidence bashed pretty badly by our horse and his antics, so was quite nervous of going for a lesson full stop, let alone somewhere I had never ridden before. I have ridden before at Happy Valley and Eaton Thorne, I found the horse care at Happy Valley appalling and the horses all seemed lazy and extremely unmotivated. Eaton Thorne was very much geared towards the younger rider and the instructor and I didn't seem to gel.
Despite all the bad reviews and horror stories I had heard about The Three Greys, I thought I give it a go and just get off if I didn't feel safe. The women on the phone sounded lovely and took on board the fact that I wasn't confident but was capable and an experienced rider, and said she had the perfect horse for me which is always lovely to hear! Got there today and was really pleased to see that the horses all looked so happy and content, munching on hay in the shade and they all looked keen and interested in what was going on.
My instructor, Jamie, was lovely and seemed genuinely interested in what I had done before riding wise and the level I was at now, I felt like at some other places they just asked as protocol. He introduced me to my horse and we went down to the school. The horse, although he was very strong and quite hard to stop, was really lovely and responded very well to all of my aids bar 'whoa', however it did turn out to be my riding making him this way and once we sorted what I was doing wrong we could stop from trot at the drop of a hat. Jamie explain things really well and nearly the whole session was spent being productive, even when the horse was too hot and needed a break we carried on with rider exercises, the horse was brilliant at just plodding round on the buckle whilst I fannied about trying to get the exercises right. The horse went really well and seemed very responsive to the slightest change in seat or leg so really forced me to focus on what I was doing with my whole body, not just the normal riding school, pull to stop, kick to go, sort of thing, although I can understand how if they put a novice on him it could be slightly nerve racking!
Overall I felt the whole session was really positive and seemed to work really well for me. I had a thoroughly nice time and have booked another lesson for next week. If you're looking for a riding school near Brighton then I would definitely recommend The Three Greys.

Sorry that turned out to be a bit of a novella! Tea and biscuits if you got to the end!

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

I would NOT buy a voucher from here. I got one as a present, they were closed on and off over lockdown, i called over 4 times to try to book but kept getting fobbed off. When I tried to book i was told the voucher had expired and they WOULD NOT GIVE ME THE LESSON.
