So decided that Willow must be weaned before the lovely Spring grass comes through. I know shes slightly over 8months old but ive not needed to rush the weaning and really had hoped that EBi would naturally wean her. She is spending less and less time with Ebi and to be quite truthful Ebi couldnt give a damn about her now

So decided where she is going, and how long for. Called the people up and im going to theirs on Saturday night for a meal and to discuss when, where etc. Hopefully she will be going next weekend.

My plans are to take Ebi and Willow over to the new yard. Drop Willow off, bring Ebi home and then go back to make sure they have got everything they need for Willow (and of course give her a big hug as I dont know how often ill be able to go and see her)

Going to cut Ebis food out completely apart from her supplements: Formula4Feet and Mobifor but she lives out 24/7 and does have adlib haylage. Is there anything else I need to sort out before Willow goes?

Why not just take Ebi - and leave Willow. It will be a much more positive experience for her if she doesn't have to contend with a new environment.

She will probably not be overly worried if she is left at home in the stable, and then turned out with her friend.

Much more likely to panic and be unhappy of you remove her from her familiar environment.

shouldve said this originally - sorry. well that was my original thought AM but - Ebi, Willow and Sasha all live out 24/7 and my other 2 live at livery. YO isnt happy about me turning 1 of those out and having Willow on the yard. I dont think it very safe just taking Ebi away and leaving her in the field in case she goes through the fencing. I know it woul dbe more sensible as she would be with her friends and know her surroundings but its not really possible.

No absolutely not. Willow would have to stay in her stable, and then get turned out with Auntie after Ebi has gone, and with you there for the day to supervise. Ideally Willow and Aunty stay in together so that she has someone to talk to. And then you pop them out together for a few hours later - or the next day.

But Willow and Sasha dont have stables so its going to be difficult to do it that way

Ah, of course can see the complication.

thats why i thought it would be easier for me to keep Ebi. Only thing I suppsoe I could do is see if the farmer who rents me the field could let me have some room in the cow barns to make some kind of make shift pens - still could be dangerous if she starts flinging herslef aroung though

not unless I turn my 2 out that are stabled and fetch Sasha and Willow in - can always do it late on when YO has been and done her horses - she may never know - or just see if she will let me do it for 1 night or so - personally I cant see there being a problme but you never know what she thinks.
I think ill have to ask.

I would prefer Ebi to go but ill have to see

Ok - so to get this straight.

You have two horses stabled. Ebi, Willow and Aunti out 24/7.

If you're paying for the stables, what does it matter what horses are in them???? Sounds very complicated tbh, and can't see what YO could possibly object to with regards to keeping Willow and Autnie in for the day and night with the others chucked out.

yep youve got it.
I cant understand it either unless the YO wants more livery but its not like theyve got any spare stables to rent to me??? all very confusing AM, especially when my horses have their own field, all vaccinated, wormed etc so shouldnt pass anything on!

either that or one of the liveries has said something to make her say this

Is that likely?

I was really lucky, Sas went onto another yard round the corner, his Nibs had to stay in anyway on box rest as he had a run in with a wheelbarrow. After 2wks he was allowed back out with horses he had been grazing with before his box rest. Mum stayed in the other yard & field for about 2mths, now she is in the same yard & grazes in the paddock next door. I have had no trantrums or upsets of any kind.

i wish it couldve been that simple for me. I have offer of free grazing for Ebi but the lovely lady who has offered it to me wants to keep Ebi permanently if she goes and wont give her back - long story. End result - Ebi isnt going!!

If only everything was simple and straight forward
