The vet has been again, we have made a decision

So sorry to hear that. She is a lucky girl to be so well looked after and I think you are right to make this decision now rather than allow her to become poorly.

You are doing the right thing. Try to look at the long term weather forecast and pick a nice day. It helps if it is sunny.

Hugs

Awh huge hugs coming your way! Its such a hard decision to make (im dreading it with mine) but you know your horse & what is right for her.

xXx

So sorry to read this MrsElle. I think you are doing the right thing for her though. Big hugs to you and Ellie. She's a lucky girl to have an owner to love her and do the best by her at the end. I hope it all goes as smoothly as possible. (((hugs))) again. x

If there's quality of life there now, my advice is to let her see out the summer - as you said she is happy and pain free at the moment.

I disagree with this and whole heartedly support MrsElle on her decision.

"Better a month too soon than a day too late"

Far better to have that lovely mare put down now before she gets to a state where she has to be put down as an emergency.

MrsElle - thinking of you, I really admire you xx

I don't think we've ever had much contact before but I've noticed from your posts how much you very obviously care for your horses, especially Ellie so I can only guess at how hard a decision that must have been. For what it's worth I do think you're doing the right thing by her but my sympathy goes to you too.

A lot of people questioned my mental state after taking on a 26 year old, but she has given me so much in the couple of years I have had her. She has given me so much confidence and love, she owes me nothing, I owe her everything.

Hey, we took on a 32 year old 2 years ago, and the lil devil is still cantering around as if he owns the place! :D

You did good.

Oh I am so so sad to read this. We also had the vet today and decided the same thing except our lad can wait until the autumn. :(:(:(
It is heartbreaking and I know how much you love this mare x
You know that you are doing the best and most brave thing you can for her and that she will go with love and dignity. Take heart from this and give her the best last few days you could wish for x (((hugs))) to you and (((vibes))) to her for a peaceful passing xxxx

Ellie is such a beautiful girl and very lucky to have you as her owner. It's so tough saying goodbye to our loved horses and I think it is testament to how much you love Ellie that you are putting your own pain to one side for her benefit. May her passing be peaceful and I hope that in time the realisation you have acted selflessly for Ellie will bring you some comfort.

Have been following your posts about Ellie but haven't commented.

I am so sorry that you have had to make this decision, I think its the hardest a horse owner ever has to make. Thoughts and sympathies are with you and Ellie xxx

So sorry. You are so brave and doing the best you can for a lovely old girl. Take comfort from the fact you have done your best and if she could speak her first words would be 'Thank you'

Hugs hun xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I'm glad you have sought veterinary advice to confirm that this is the right course of action. A picture doesn't necessarily portray the complete story and I know you have always had her best interests at heart. Make her last days extra special.

What a kind mare, lovely photos, thank you. Bless you all, and take some comfort in the fact that you are doing the right and responsible thing. Much love....

So sad and sorry to read this, it is the hardest but the kindest decision any animal owner can make.
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((huge hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I also have to say I feel quite angered by people who question your decision, where were you asking for opinions?

Hugs to you at such a sad time.

All our horses deserve the love and attention you have given this little horse - and both your lives will have been enriched by knowing each other.

((((((((((((((( ))))))))))))))))))

What a terrible shame, especially when you have tried so hard and have made all the right choices. Some things though are out of our hands and no matter how much we try to alter them, life happens, be it good or bad.

She is such a lovely mare and she knows that you love her. Comfort yourself with all the memories of the good and fun times that you have had together and carry that love forever in your heart as only it that will get you through.
