Yep, here it's drizzling, foggy & horrid, but you bet if they have full necks on then kater on they'll be sweating again.
It could actually be a full time occupation as a rug changer at present. . . .. . .
It's going to be really warm for the rest of the week, I don't worry if they get a bit wet so long as it's warm, they don't melt in the rain. I feel they would rather be a bit wet than too hot.
I am struggling with rugs, I have 2 clipped horses and a selection of rugs but nothing seems quite right at the moment! I turned one out this morning and then ran back to the field to change his rug as I was so undecided!
In the end, blanket clipped boy out in rain sheet, fully clipped boy out in 100g rug, both without necks.
yes me too . its so difficult to decide what rugs they need. It is so mild here this morning that i have decided to turn my clipped mare (blanket clip) out naked. she hates getting too warm and after an hour wearing her LW she was already too hot. luckily my OH can check her later on but no doubt she will be wearing a mud rug by then......
Mine's out in a MW, but he's a wooss and gets really stary coated if at all chilly, but not that warm here & still raining (he hates being wet as well)
I have no intention to rug for another few weeks at least. I think its far too mild for anything other than a light sheet. Obviously depends where abouts you are, but I think its far better to let them be as natural as possible for as long as possible.
Are people really using neck covers?? I can see the appeal to help keep clean, but what are you going to do when winter really sets in? Add more rugs so your horse is a walking rug shop??
I have 2 out naked and my clipped boy in a lightweight with no neck. Yesterday I put him in a fleece over night as he was sweaty the night before in his normal stable rug! It's hard to work out what the weather's doing!
My IDxHippo is in a lightweight - but it's just to keep him clean! Not clipped yet, and won't be for a fair few weeks yet as doesn't come in until late november / early december if I can help it.
I was thinking the same thing this morning!!! they only have lightweights on but it was drizzling this moring (kent) so left them on then got in the car and they said on the radio going to be nearly 20deg
Medium weight at night, a bit drizzly here today but warm, so have taken it off for the day, ment to get sunny later, if not will just wick the old boy off and put rug back on for the night.
