Is anyone else getting fed up with all of the wet and windy weather we have been having recently?

I'm finding it harder and harder to find things I can do with my pony to keep him interested and alert whilst schooling. we haven't jumped for almost a month, due to our Indoor Arena being slightly too small and the Outdoor Arena being too wet!

I also can't take my pony out to a different yard very easily as I don't have transport and have to hire a lorry. I went on a short hack last week, but couldn't stay out long because it was getting dark. I have mainly just been riding on the flat and lungeing him. I'm going to a Dressage Comp on Saturday though which I am looking forward to.

How does everyone else cope with exercising their horses during the winter whilst trying to dodge the weather and working around their jobs? Especially if they don't have transport and you want to keep your horse fit, alert and interested in the work they do?

Any advice much appreciated.

I know exactly what you mean about the weather... My friend and i took my two out today... I was sunny when we left and half way round the heavens opened, to the point that we were soaked to the skin in seconds... thankfully the ponies weren't too bothered but i was freezing by the time we got back to the yard... and then to top it off the sun came back out!!!

Can you take poles into the indoor?

Yes, I forgot to add, I have done a bit of pole work. You can do a jump, you just don't have much of a run up.

its rubbish!!the school is useable but wet, it gets dark so early i was trying to jump last night and it was getting too dark at 4

hate england!!!

You can make courses with poles on the ground, not like sj course but say you have to stop between these two poles and weave in and out of some others, and have trot poles/canter poles, you could have two poles several strides aart and say you walk/trot/canter over the first then halt the proceed over the second. things like that

feel the same - now I do have transport but what is the point of going out if you haven't been able to keep the ground work up?! I am just ticking him over at the moment when its horrid and concentrating on intensive schooling when I can.. even the dogs have had their exercise cut back. What is really getting me down though is the mess and mud - horse isn't nearly as bad as my little 2 staffies!

This is exactly what happened to me, plus being hailed on, not impressed. Ned wasn't pleased either and was quite thankful to get back in his stable when we got back

Think yourself lucky you've got a school - or 2 !! hee hee!

I'm totally frustrated that I can't do any flatwork because the fields are too boggy. Can't ride in the week cos it's too dark.... so up and down the road at the weekend is all we can do
