I am riding a horse for a friend and now with the cold weather setting in, he is going to start getting a bit sweaty while working due to his hairiness!

However, due to working around university commitments and work, he only gets ridden 2/3 times a week so unsure what sort of clip to go for if any...

What sort of clip would you guys go for? Or would you just leave it?

Thanks!! :D

Chaser maybe? Really doesn't matter how many times he's ridden tbh, take the bits off getting sweaty and just rug up to suit :)

Agree - it depends on how fit the horse is, how thick his coat gets and how sweaty he gets; but to be honest I would go for a chaser or blanket. It doesn't sound like he needs any more taken off than that unless you're planning on going hunting or doing anything more strenuous.

Thank you :)

He is a Warmblood X Cob and it seems like the cob in him takes over when the winter comes haha! I have noticed he has been starting to get sweaty after work but until recently its been alright temperature wise to just give him a light sponge off.

He's only 5 so nothing too strenuous, just schooling and a bit of hacking

I'd do a high trace or low blanket clip. I really do like the blanket clip for those in light to medium work, it's just like an exercise sheet, so their front muscles can breath, but the loin and back is nice & warm. We use this clip in the winter on my little sister's Welsh Sec. A mare, she's only ridden 2 times a week as she's 24, but sweats a lot & this clip is great. If you're planning on hunting, then I'd do a blanket or hunter clip. Mine is in very heavy work & she gets everything taken off apart from the legs & a small saddle patch for her back.

Where does he sweat most? A neck and belly could be suited however he may need something that goes diagonally down from withers to flank - and then all of neck/tummy off.. depends where he is getting sweaty. :)

(Sorry about adding a pic! :))

I did this last year.. If you don't like the look of it however then a chaser could be your friend?

I do a nice low blanket clip so that's the neck is off, she also has a half face and the clippers are run down the backs of the legs and heels too. She gets sweaty on the neck, chest and belly but leaps about like a wild deer when ridden if I dare clip her back!
